It is with deep sadness to share that we lost our dear and talented Jane Staffieri on 7th October.
There are no words to fully express just how much Jane contributed in her years of dedication to helping people through music. Before being appointed as Director of CYMAZ (now Music for Good), Jane worked for many years in Bristol as a Youth and Community Worker and then more specifically with music, at the Basement Studios. This led her beautifully into the role of Director of the Cornwall Youth Music Action Zone in 2006.
In her 10 plus years as Director, Jane brought huge growth to the charity, extending partnerships and reach across Cornwall to benefit many hundreds of vulnerable children and young people.
Moving gradually from the Director role (although never stopping the strategic thinking!), Jane began developing her skills as a practitioner. She will be well remembered for her energetic and entertaining delivery of whole class Taiko drumming and with great fondness for her gentle one to one work with children. She particularly loved her work in Pencalenick Special School and at Cubert School where she became a much valued member of the team.
With Co-Director Emily, Jane was pioneering in aligning music for wellbeing with health settings and agendas. She was the first practitioner to deliver one to one Music for Well-being in a GP surgery with children and young people. This programme went on to receive a prestigious national award.
Jane and Emily developed evidence-based programmes to support people with chronic health conditions, leading to the winning of NHS contracts and training other practitioners to deliver this work.
This is a huge loss not just to Music for Good, but to the music education and arts and health sector in Cornwall and beyond. Her talents, enthusiasm and high level thinking have rippled out to all those who worked with her. This will be part of her legacy.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held in Lostwithiel and near Looe on 7th November at 2pm. Please see the details in this webpage and note the email address to direct your rsvp to.
Dedicated to the memory of Jane Susan Staffieri
