This study investigates how suvorexant, an orexin receptor antagonist used to treat insomnia, is transferred into breast milk following administration in healthy lactating women.
💊 Researchers found that suvorexant exposure in breast milk was markedly lower than in plasma following a single 20 mg dose. The estimated infant exposure was less than 1% of the maternal weight-adjusted dose, suggesting minimal transfer through breast milk.
🔬 These findings provide important evidence to support clinical decision-making around the use of suvorexant during lactation and contribute to the growing understanding of medicine use in breastfeeding populations.
