DESIRE Part 2 is Now Open!

PART 2 of our Summer Group Show includes works from Bisila Noha, Georgina Odell, Jingyi Li, Kay Doble, Louis Petit, Rizza Zahid, Sophie Mei Birkin, Taiba Akhuetie, Tom Halimond, Victoria Ruiz, Zoya Smirnova, Siphiwe - Nokukhanya Mnguni.

In the exhibition, desire takes a broader reading here beyond its usual meaning of longing or attraction, it’s understood as a process of seeking, longing, and projection, a movement towards something not yet fully known. It is both the desire for something and the desire to make something.

Ahead of the opening of Part 1, we’re looking back at a few moments captured during the making of some of this year’s extraordinary works.⁠

For the 23 visual artists currently in residence across Sarabande’s studios in Haggerston and Tottenham, the Summer Group Show marks the culmination of their time at the Foundation. Over the past year, each artist has immersed themselves in their practice, with their final works reflecting months of experimentation, research, and creative exploration.⁠

For the launch of our new home in N17, we commissioned Siphiwe-Nokukhanya Mnguni to create her largest piece yet, with a live mural created throughout the launch day 💫

Siphiwe is a British–Zimbabwean artist and curator whose multidisciplinary work explores the Black female figure and themes of identity, womanhood, community, and perception.

Currently in residence at our HQ in haggerston, her work uses abstract figuration to celebrate diverse figures and reimagine how they are seen within contemporary culture. Working in painting, collage, and ceramics, she reflects on her dual heritage and highlights people often pushed to the margins, bringing joy and play into her work.

Sinéad O’Dwyer presents new collection at Victoria and Albert Museum Fashion in Motion show❤️

Currently in residence at Sarabande High Road, Sinéad O'Dwyer uses inclusive casting, adaptive sizing, and sculptural design to question the exclusionary nature of luxury fashion and advocate for greater representation on the runway and in clothing production.

For her Fashion in Motion show Sinead created 15 garments which combine her visual aesthetics with a strong social message, positioning fashion as a tool for empowerment, accessibility, and self-acceptance.

The exhibition brings together 23 Sarabande artists in a two-part exhibition. For the artists currently in residence across Sarabande’s studios in N1 & N17, the Summer Group Show presents the culmination of their time at the Foundation. Over the past year, each artist has delved deeper, immersing themselves in their craft; their final pieces reflect countless hours of experimentation and research.
