Sickle Cell Awareness Month is approaching. But for me, sickle cell isn’t a month. It’s every single day.
It’s not a distant memory. It’s my everyday reality.
And while I’m grateful for the support this community gives and receives, sometimes June can feel performative. The flurry of activity. The noise. And then silence.
What you don’t always see is the work happening all year round. Behind the scenes. The impact. The actions. The outcomes being fought for quietly, consistently, without the fanfare.
It’s why I’ve taken a step back from the noise and redirected my purpose. Not away from the community, deeper into it. On my own terms.
We deserve more than a month. We deserve sustained action.
June 19th is 18 days away. We’ll be here, like we always are🤍
