Sickle Cell Awareness Month is approaching. But for me, sickle cell isn’t a month. It’s every single day.

It’s not a distant memory. It’s my everyday reality.

And while I’m grateful for the support this community gives and receives, sometimes June can feel performative. The flurry of activity. The noise. And then silence.

What you don’t always see is the work happening all year round. Behind the scenes. The impact. The actions. The outcomes being fought for quietly, consistently, without the fanfare.

It’s why I’ve taken a step back from the noise and redirected my purpose. Not away from the community, deeper into it. On my own terms.

We deserve more than a month. We deserve sustained action.

June 19th is 18 days away. We’ll be here, like we always are🤍

Happy Mother’s Day to every mother doing her best every single day🤍🫂

Motherhood is powerful, but it is not always easy. For many mothers living with chronic illness, including sickle cell, it can mean balancing pain, fatigue, hospital visits and still showing up with love, strength and resilience.

To the mothers raising children while navigating their own health challenges, to the mothers advocating for their children with sickle cell, and to every mother holding everything together quietly… we see you.

Today we celebrate your strength, your love and the incredible role you play every single day.

Happy Mother’s Day from Unsickle My Cells🌸
