The situation in Calais in the "jungle " is developing from bad to worse. With winter fast approaching, a group of us have come together to try to provide a little support for the refugees stuck in calais . Whilst we have been unable to do anything directly for people fleeing for their lives in their war torn countries, We can definitely do something for them once they are right at our doorstep.
Inspired by these amazing Dutch friends of ours 'Family on a mission' and having been pleasantly surprised by the astounding amount of people in the UK who have taken it as their personal responsibility to help the refugees in the jungle, we felt a pressing sense of social responsiblity and urgency to act NOW. We could not bear to just sit back and simply 'like' an initiative from our computer screens. We have now joined forces with Family on a mission Nl. and have formed Family on a mission UK
Our mission :
-Collect essentiall items at a drop off point in london,
-Sort through them ready for distribution in bags
-Load onto our van and drive to calais
-Distribute
We are also looking for volunteers who would like to come with us . We will make our first trip to calais around mid October 2015. From then onwards we will hopefully be more clued up on what they exactly need and what services could benefit their well being and thus make periodic trips there. We urge you to join us/join other existing aid teams to support the refugees or to start your own initiative
If you have gone already please let us know what are key items and how we can best support the people in the 'jungle' in these terrible living conditions with winter around the corner
We will let people know drop off address in london shortly once we have one. Much love to you all and looking forward to having you on board. ;)
