The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

Today the AMC is thought to be the world's largest organised Muslim community with more than 100 million members spread across established missions in 207 countries. The AMC is a non-political organisation that focuses on the spiritual and moral reformation of its members and the propagation of Islam's true peaceful and pluralistic teachings. In pursuit of this goal

, the AMC engages its members in social, charitable and interfaith initiatives across the globe. It also emplys tens of thousands of life devotees across the world who work in established AMC missions, hospitals and schools. The AMC considers itself a driving force for positive change within the Muslim community. Some of the initiatives of the AMC are as follows:

- Established what are today's the world's largest Muslim woman's and Muslim youth associations, founded in 1922 and 1938 respectively.

- Launched the world's first Islamic satellite television channel in 1994, Muslim Television Ahmadiyya, which today enjoys the widest coverage across all Islamic channels.

- Translated the full Qur'an into 74 languages, including Braille, and partially into more than 120 languages.

- Build thousands of Mosques across the world. These include the largest Mosques in the UK, Scandinavia, Canada, Albania, Uganda, Benin, Australia, and the South Pacific. It also maintains the oldest Islamic community in the USA and built the first Mosque to be erected in Spain for 600 years. History

From its humble beginning in the remote Indian village of Qadian, the AMC was established as an Islamic reformist movement in1889. The community was founded by Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (peace be upon him), who claimed to be the chosen Imam (Imam Mahdi) and the Messiah awaited by followers of the world's great monotheistic religions. Among his key teachings were peace, human dignity and universal respect. Since the death of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad in 1908, the AMC has been headed by five visionary Caliphs (Khulafa al-Masih, meaning representatives of the Messiah) in what currently stands as the longest standing and largest Caliphate in the world. The present caliph is Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad who resides close to London's oldest Mosque, Masjid Fazl. Today, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad travels the world promoting peace and advising heads of state and leading global thinker on the path to absolute justice. A gunman shot and injured three Ahmadi Muslim security volunteers in Rabwah, Pakistan, just outside of our Baitul Aqsa mosque last night.

Two are in critical condition – the youngest victim is 23 years old. The perpetrator fled the scene and remains at large. We strongly condemn the attack, which is a continuation of the rising insecurity for Ahmadis in Rabwah and is a result of the impunity for hate preachers to continue to incite violence against innocent Ahmadis in Pakistan. This is the second such attack in the town within recent months.

The World Head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community delivered his Eid-ul-Adha sermon from Islamabad, UK to thousands of Ahmadi Muslims gathered and televised to an audience of millions worldwide.

His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad elucidated on the true spirit of sacrifice, which was to adopt righteous conduct for God's sake alone.

He further said that the mere ritual sacrifices on Eid were meaningless unless accompanied by righteousness, fear of God and good conduct.

His Holiness led the congregation in prayers for the persecuted Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan who were prevented by the authorities from celebrating Eid and offering the ritual sacrifices. He said that the real criminals are left free whilst Ahmadis are particularly targeted. In many places, Ahmadis were compelled to celebrate Eid in secret.

May Allah create conditions of ease for them and bring relief to the oppressed.

"What greater good could there be than striving to save humanity from self-destruction?"

While His Holiness acknowledged that it is fair to ask whether there was any benefit of holding peace events, given that these messages have often gone unheeded, he reiterated that "Islam teaches us to relentlessly strive for peace and never give up."
