CFA is at the Zero Waste Forum's "Road to Antalya: Zero Waste as Climate Action" in Tรผrkiye, alongside participants from more than 150 countries.
The discussions have reinforced an important principle: zero waste is far more than waste management. It is about rethinking how we produce, consume and value resources.
In the opening plenary, Samed Aฤฤฑrbaล, President of the Zero Waste Forum, emphasised that achieving zero waste requires addressing both production and consumption patterns. Echoing this, Emine Erdoฤan highlighted the importance of drawing upon diverse cultural practices and experiences in building pathways towards zero waste.
A recurring theme throughout the forum has been the need to frame zero waste through community, equity and justice lenses. Participants stressed that reduction, reuse and circularity must remain central, and that limiting unnecessary production is critical to achieving meaningful outcomes.
Among the various interesting parallel sessions, here are the some of the thought-provoking discussions on:
โข Global Plastics Treaty: From Negotiation to Delivery โ exploring how international commitments can drive practical action on reducing plastic pollution at source through reuse systems, better product design, producer responsibility and support for affected communities.
โข Data and Indicators Towards Zero Waste โ highlighting the need for robust indicators that track prevention, reuse, emissions, leakage and social outcomes, while ensuring that data supports action rather than becoming an end in itself.
As countries move towards the next phase of global plastics negotiations and climate commitments, these conversations underscore that ambitious targets must be matched by measurable implementation and systemic change.
