Is a the animal in your home really your
‘companion’ or ‘family member’ if you bought them in a shop?

Selling animals directly reduces them to being an object that can be ‘owned’. You do not
‘own’ a companion. A companion is someone who chooses to be by your side.

Adopting from a responsible rescue is the only way to ‘acquire’ an animal that is a mutually beneficial decision. Not only do you get to experience caring for them by offering a home to an animal that desperately needs , but you are not directly supporting a business or individual who sees them and their family as nothing more than profit.

Always adopt. NEVER shop.

Exotics vet on reptiles being one of ‘the worst represented and advocated for’ groups of animals.

In the pet trade, snakes are kept in vivariums that don’t allow them to stretch. Lizards are denied the ability to climb, bask, and forage. Turtles suffer in poor and dangerous water quality. And this is all just the tip of the iceberg.

Reptiles belong in the wild, not a human’s home. Thank you, , for everything you do for these amazing, misunderstood animals 💚

Join us at National Animal Rights March UK to march for the animals@used in the pet industry 🐰🐹🐸🐱🐠

We have lots of placards and banners for anyone wanting to represent the animals that are so often forgotten in our movement.

Before we head off on the march, we’ll be giving a talk about why it’s so important we include the animals exploited by the pet industry in our activism, and why we need to build a movement of people fighting for their freedom.

Something is wrong with our relationship with other animals…

Through our breeding and keeping of animals for pleasure and ‘companionship’, we are seriously threatening the animals who are just trying to live freely in their natural habitats.

We’ve introduced fierce predators that cannot be competed with, toxic insecticides used for parasite treatments are poisoning wildlife, animals are stolen from the wild to be sold to live in cages and wild species are being lost due to inter-breeding with domestic species designed by humans - not nature.

The web of harm caused by the pet trade stretches further than most of us could imagine.

We urgently need to readdress our relationship with the animals around us, and what is really means to care about them, as it impacts so many more individuals than we’d initially believe.

Thank you to Born Free Foundation for this vital research on the extent of dangerous wild animal ‘ownership’ in Britain.

We are horrified at how many of these animals are living inside private homes in this country.

Wild animals belong in the wild. Not in human homes.
