Wise Age has still not yet received a formal response to our Open Letter to the Prime Minister in which we asked Mr Burnham to extend the excellent work that has made Manchester the UK’s leading Age Friendly city to the whole country so that the UK, its cities and towns and regions all embrace being Age Friendly and age diverse in employment. Given the mutual needs of both young and old alike for work and financial wellbeing and their shared need for decent public services, libraries, community and leisure centres, maintained open spaces and access to decent housing this is an open door for intergenerational solidarity and mutual support to overcome poverty and deprivation. We hope that this aspect of Manchesterism is one that will feature strongly in the budget and Burnham’s 10 year plan

As over half of seniors seeking employment ( whether registered with the DWP or not) say that the chief reason they cannot get a job is due to employer and recruitment agency ageism then this innovative initiative is long overdue. Good luck to both seniors and to employers seeking experienced skilled local workers

Wise Age is a not-for-profit social enterprise that is a leading UK specialist on older workers and employment.

Today Wise Age is recruiting people aged 66+ who want or need to work to help them understand better how to use IT and online services to improve their prospects of finding, applying and getting the job they want.

Over 1.2 million people of state pension age are working, often part time and hundreds of thousands more want to work but over half of them say they face institutional ageism. Wise Age works to help seniors turn their age to an advantage and tries to overcome recruitment agencies' ageist myths by showing the many benefits older workers and age diversity brings employers.

So if you or you know of anyone who want to improve their online skills and get the help they need to find that job and lives in London then please contact us at [email protected]. Please note that as this is a pilot we can only take on 15 clients, so if you are interested do hurry up and contact us
