You don’t have to wait for things to get worse to ask for support. 💜

This Domestic Abuse Awareness Month, we’re reminding women that abuse can take many forms. It can include controlling who you see, monitoring your phone, restricting access to money or making you feel afraid in your own home.

Whether you’re unsure about what you’re experiencing or worried about someone you care about, BCWA is here to listen. You don’t need to have all the answers before reaching out.

Final push for the ! 🚴‍♀️💜

A huge thank you to everyone at Stannah Lifts who has spent today cycling in support of Bromley & Croydon Women's Aid. It's been fantastic to see the enthusiasm, generosity and determination on display, including one incredible team member who has cycled over 100 miles!

BCWA Fundraising Officer, Rachael, had the pleasure to visit the Orpington office today, share a little about BCWA's work, and even hop on the bike herself after the Mayor set the pace!

We're so grateful for every donation that's come in so far. Together, you're helping women and children affected by domestic abuse access safety, support and hope for the future.

When someone calls our mainline, it’s more than just a phone call. For many, it’s their first step to freedom from abuse, and it’s our vital job to make sure they feel believed, safe, and supported. The need for support is rising - last year, we received 500 more calls than the previous year.

You can help us continue this life-saving service by pledging your support today for our BigGive campaign, and when you donate in October, BigGive will match your contribution!

"When I called someone answered and the only thing I could say was 'I need help' before crying (uncontrollably). I couldn't speak because there was too much in my head. The support worker stayed on the phone with me and reassured me and we eventually got me through to the right person. English is my secondary language and when I'm stressed, I struggle to speak it. If she hadn't been so warm, I would have put the phone down and maybe never asked for help again".

Domestic abuse does not end when a relationship ends, or when a perpetrator is convicted. Early release without adequate risk assessment, specialist support and clear, trauma-informed communication could place women and children at further risk.

We stand with Women’s Aid and specialist services across the country in calling for survivor safety to be at the heart of any decisions made.

Women and children must be safe. Their safety cannot be an afterthought.

We have recently been fortunate to collaborate with Love Grace x. They work to raise awareness and fight against violence against women and girls in memory of Grace Millane, who was tragically murdered whilst travelling in Aotearoa in 2018.
We'd like to thank them for their generous donation of more than 50 bags containing essentials and self-care items to the residents in our refuges, which will mean a lot to those who have had to leave their homes and are embarking on a new life free from abuse.
