Further to last week’s update, and without the urgent funding needed to continue, it is with immense sadness that we have to take the incredibly difficult step of beginning the formal process of closing the charity.
For more than 25 years, City Gateway has stood alongside young people and marginalised communities in Tower Hamlets and East London, creating pathways where there were none, and fighting to ensure no one is left behind.
We have been a voice, an advocate, and a place of hope for the 30,000+ individuals we supported over the past 25 years.
Our final plea:
£1.5m will allow us to continue supporting our young people for a full academic year to the end of July 2026. If you or your organisation can offer financial support, please come forward now.
We urged the Department for Education calling for urgent financial intervention. But our call was met with silence.
The impact of national funding cuts is now devastatingly clear. With the closure of City Gateway, hundreds of NEET young people across East London will lose access to the specialist, wraparound support they rely on to move forward in education, training and work.
To our Trustees, funders, corporate partners, employer networks, donors, volunteers, and friends, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your belief in our work has enabled us to create real life changing opportunities for young people.
To our incredible staff, your passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our mission has been nothing short of extraordinary. You have stood by and held our young people. You have changed lives.
As we prepare to close, we do so with heavy hearts but also with immense pride. City Gateway leaves behind a powerful and enduring legacy.
We are proud of every young person who walked through our doors, and we believe their voices and futures still matter.
We urge Government, policymakers and funders to act now and ensure no young person is left behind.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
