Guy Smith from Northumberland Freemasons recently completed an unbelievable 400-mile journey from Newcastle to London to raise vital funds for the Northumberland 2031 Festival Appeal in aid of the Freemasons’ Charity.

What started as an ultra-run through heavy rain and thunderstorms took a dramatic turn in Lincolnshire. Diagnosed with a stress fracture in his leg and told by doctors to stop running, Guy refused to quit. Instead, he jumped on a bike provided by local Freemasons and pedaled the rest of the way to London - putting absolutely no weight on his broken leg! 🤯

Despite painful falls and grueling conditions, Guy arrived at Freemasons’ Hall right on his 10-day target, cheered on by supporters and his incredible wife, who was by his side for every single mile.
We are so grateful for Guy's monumental effort to support communities across England and Wales. 💙

A Kindred Squared school readiness survey in 2025 found that 37% of reception aged children in the UK are not school ready.

📚 600 children and their parents will benefit from a £60,000 grant from Glos Masons to GL11 Community Hub which will support the delivery of their popular courses which aim to boost parents’ confidence and create a supportive environment in which children are able to thrive and are better prepared for starting school.

According to the Bupa UK Wellbeing Index, 50% of men have struggled with mental health difficulties at some point, yet fewer than half have sought medical advice.

We know that asking for help can seem daunting, so we have some practical steps you can take to feel empowered to open up:

💡 Acknowledge the problem: Accept that there is an issue that needs addressing; denial can often delay recovery and exacerbate the problem.
👂 Choose the right person to talk to: Whether this is a trusted friend or family member, your Lodge Almoner, local PGA, or one of our Enquiry Officers, the right person will listen without judgement and offer constructive support.
✏️ Prepare your thoughts: This doesn’t mean you need to have a script, but it can help to have a clear idea of what you want to say beforehand to reduce any anxiety.
💬 Be honest and open: Authenticity is important. Being truthful and vulnerable can not only help you receive the help you need but also build deeper relationships with those around you.
📍 Ask for specific help: Only you can know how this crisis is affecting you, so make sure to identify specific ways others can support you, even if this simply means being a listening ear.

If you are in need of support you can call our enquiry line on 0800 035 60 90 or email [email protected] to speak to a member of our Advice and Support Team.

Local charity The Hub from Greener & Cleaner has just launched a major new initiative: the 'Repair and Resilience Bromley' project. Thanks to a £46,000 grant provided on behalf of West Kent Freemasons, they are expanding their free drop-in repair cafes, mending clinics, and practical life-skill workshops across the entire Bromley borough.

This project isn’t just about fixing everyday items like electronics, furniture, and clothes to save money and cut down on waste. It’s also about building a stronger community, combating social isolation, and boosting mental well-being by bringing people together.

Here is what's coming to the community:
✨ More free repair cafes and mending workshops.
📍 Brand new sessions expanding to local food banks and accessible community hubs.
🧰 Cheaper access to home maintenance tools via their popular "Library of Things."
