Pratham UK

Pratham UK We conduct high-quality, low-cost and replicable interventions to address gaps in the education system.

Our best-known programme, Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL), teaches basic literacy and numeracy in as little as 30 days for £14 per student. Pratham UK was founded in 2003 by volunteers who wanted to help make a difference through educating children. As an overseas chapter of Pratham India, Pratham UK focuses on fundraising to support Pratham's programme work on the ground, whilst also increasin

g awareness of the charity's goals and activity with a UK audience by holding fundraising and awareness-building events throughout the year.

Deepika left school after Grade 9. Today, in her home in Assam, learning looks very different.

She is part of Pratham’s learning camps, Mothers’ Groups and Children’s Clubs, supporting her children’s education while also rebuilding her own confidence through adult learning and livelihoods programmes. She has completed a beautician’s course and now runs a small local service.

Her children are learning through Pratham’s foundational learning programmes, building strong reading, maths and school readiness so they can stay on track at school. Deepika has also grown into a leader mother, supporting other women in her community.

Because when learning starts at home, it doesn’t stop there.

Mothers returning to learning. Children gaining confidence. Families building new possibilities together.

In the lead up to International Day of Education, we joined partners and young people in Parliament to mark 25 years of the Send My Friend to School | Global Campaign for Education UK

Through SMF, over 8 million UK schoolchildren across nearly 10,000 schools have taken action to support the right to education worldwide, showing long‐standing public support for UK aid and education. Yet despite progress, 272 million children remain out of school, and UK aid cuts risk reversing hard‐won gains.

The message in the room was clear: continued UK leadership and investment in global education is essential for building a more equal, safe and prosperous world. 📚

It was especially powerful to hear children advocate for the right to education for all children, everywhere. It reminds us why this work matters.

💬 Sudarshan’s schoolwork used to feel impossible. Reading was tough, maths was scary, and he struggled to keep up.

Everything changed when he joined Pratham’s Learning Camp. Through hands-on lessons and group activities, he found confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning.

📚 Today, he’s training to be a teacher, returning to his old school to help other children discover the same joy.

Stories like his show how the right support at the right time can change a child’s life—and spark hope for many more. 💛
