Open Call:
REFLECTING CHANGE
Exhibition of animations and/or experimental moving image
The exhibition ‘REFLECTING CHANGE - Reflecting on the past to change the future’ will present an exhibition of artworks reflecting on societal change that are created of, by and for communities:
The exhibition will pose questions about the power of animation to change cultural perceptions, contribute to public discourse, and to provide a voice to communities and individuals that often remain unheard. We will ask the research questions: ‘What is the societal role of animation as a changemaker?’
Inspired by the notion of legacy championed by the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, this Open Call invites artists to respond with animations and animated artworks that ‘reflect on the past to change the future’.
We are looking for proposals from a wide array of artists who work with community groups and underrepresented individuals to submit their work. We seek submissions that explore the diverse areas of animation practice and actively encourage applications from candidates of all ethnicities, backgrounds and genders, who are traditionally underrepresented.
We are looking for artworks that explore a broad reading of the term ‘Animation’, From experimental moving image, to 2D to 3D animations, to use of immersive technologies. Finished artworks or prototypes with a clear description of technical parameters and modes of display can be submitted.
The exhibition will run from Friday, 17 January 2025 – Thursday, 13 February 2025 in the Stephen Lawrence Gallery, at the School of Design, in 10 Stockwell Street SE10 9BD.
All proposals will need to be submitted by the 18 November at 9.00 am via the below link:
