We've had a festive week in the Day Centre - making decorations & marshmallow snowmen, singing carols, playing percussion, eating chocolate and camembert, playing 'pin the tail on the donkey', taking part in Christmas quizzes and other jolly pursuits. It's been a blast and we will miss our clients over the festive period. 🥰🎅

It was a pleasure to host Dr Debbie Weekes-Bernard, London's Deputy Mayor for Communities & Social Justice, who visited our Centre last Thursday to mark Brent's commitment to making the borough a place where older residents can thrive.

The Deputy Mayor took the time to meet with staff, volunteers and local residents, and even joined in with our Dance for Dementia session, led by Nicholas from DanceWest.

Also in attendance were members of the Age-Friendly Brent consortium, Krupesh Hirani AM (London Assembly Member for Brent & Harrow) and Cllr Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council, who all spoke passionately about making Brent and London, age-friendly places where older people’s voices are listened to.

Thank you to everyone who attended, we’re excited to be on this journey with you.🙏

“Today Brent’s older residents have shown they are ready to lead. We’re building an age-friendly borough, together.” - Fay Austin, Age-Friendly Brent Project Coordinator.

On Remembrance Day, nearly 200 residents came together at the Brent Civic Centre to help shape an Age-Friendly Borough, demonstrating that age is no barrier to making a difference.

The day began with a two-minute silence led by the Mayor of Brent, Cllr Ryan Hack, followed by lively discussions, community stalls and a joyful performance by the Songs of Joy Dementia Choir.

Older residents shared their opinions on topics such as transport, accessibility, resting places and digital inclusion. Community organiser Tony Burch said “This is all about giving older people a voice that is heard, and listened to. That’s my call to action. Join the movement. Be part of the change.”
