đź”» The flotilla sets sails again.

đź”» On May 14, 2026, five FFC boats that launched from Greece, joined with more than 50 vessels that departed from TĂĽrkiye to form the largest civilian flotilla to date. They are now en route to Gaza.

đź”» Despite attacks, abductions, threats, and smear campaigns, the mission to break Israel's illegal and deadly siege of Gaza continues.

đź”» We are unarmed, civilian-led, lawful, and grounded in international law.

đź”» Governments have failed to stop the siege, starvation, and wholesale destruction of Gaza. They have been continuously enabling this genocide.

đź”» But it is our duty to refuse to normalize the horror. To rise against murder, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | Important Statement Issued by the International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza (ICBSG).

“The Largest Maritime Mobilisation Towards Gaza”

The International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza (a founding member of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition) announces the launch of the final phase of the sailing towards Gaza by five vessels belonging to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), with the aim of breaking the illegal Israeli blockade imposed on the Strip for nearly two decades. This step represents a continuation of an ongoing global popular and civil struggle, sustained for years in defence of the rights of the Palestinian people and in rejection of policies of genocide, starvation, and collective punishment.

The five vessels — Al-Adalah, Perseverance, Tynaz–Al-Aqsa–Bangladesh, Kyriakos X, and Lina Al-Nabulsi — are scheduled to depart today, 13 May 2026, from one of the Greek islands, heading towards Gaza as part of an international maritime mobilisation aimed at challenging the Israeli naval blockade and exposing the continuing crimes committed against Palestinian civilians.

These vessels will join 54 additional boats departing from Marmaris in Türkiye, together forming the largest maritime mobilisation in history to break the blockade. While the FFC five boats — sailing under French, Italian, and Polish flags — carry symbolic quantities of food and medicine, we are not a humanitarian relief organisation. We are sailing in defiance of a brutal and illegal blockade designed to isolate, imprison, and oppress Palestinians, and in rejection of the international community’s failure to halt the ongoing Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people.

Since 2010, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) has organised and sailed dozens of vessels in direct defiance of the illegal Israeli naval blockade, drawing upon the historic legacy of the “Free Gaza Movement”, which successfully broke the siege by sea for the first time in 2008.

Following the voyage of the vessel Madleen in June 2025, international participation in flotilla initiatives expanded significantly, reflecting the growing rejection by global civil society of their governments’ normalisation of the blockade and genocide.

This phase of the mission comes in the aftermath of the Israeli attack on 29 April on 22 civilian vessels off the western coast of Greece, as well as the kidnapping and mistreatment of two activists from the “Global Sumud Flotilla” (GSF).

Following that attack, organisers temporarily suspended sailing operations in order to assess the security conditions and coordinate the next steps. Despite escalating attacks and intimidation, the flotilla mission continues today.

Over recent weeks, Israel and the United States have attempted to smear and criminalise the “Global Sumud Flotilla” through baseless allegations clearly intended to delegitimise civil resistance and prepare public opinion for further attacks against the mission. Furthermore, the release of activists Saif and Thiago — members of the flotilla’s organising committee — without any charges being brought against them once again exposed the emptiness of these accusations.

Israel and all cooperating states are routinely informed in clear terms that this flotilla is civilian and unarmed, and that it sails in accordance with international law in defence of fundamental human rights.

For Palestinians in Gaza, who have endured two decades of deadly siege, repeated military assaults, forced deprivation, sexual violence, and ongoing genocide, this flotilla represents more than humanitarian solidarity; it is an act of international civil resistance against settler-colonial violence and against the global system that supports and sustains it.

The ICBSG as a member of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition reaffirms its commitment to direct and peaceful action — by sea and by land — to confront the illegal Israeli closure of Gaza and to stand alongside the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom, dignity, return, and self-determination.

♦️ About the Freedom Flotilla Coalition:
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) brings together civil society organisations and grassroots initiatives from around the world. Since 2010, the coalition has actively worked to challenge the illegal and inhumane Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza by sea. The coalition’s actions aim to defend international law and support the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom of movement, self-determination, and dignity. The coalition is also committed to confronting the complicity of governments, corporations, and institutions that enable Israeli occupation, colonialism, and apartheid.

Press Brief |

Around 40 boats set sail today, Wednesday, from the Spanish city of Barcelona as part of the “Spring Mission 2026” to break the Israeli blockade.

The vessels had been scheduled to depart the city’s port on Sunday, but the mission was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

Approximately 20 boats departed last week from the port of Marseille in southern France to join the flotilla.

Additional vessels are also expected to sail from Syracuse in Sicily, Italy, on April 24.

A one-week stop in southern Italy is planned for “nonviolence training.”

This will be followed by a collective departure of around 70 boats and ships carrying figures from around the world toward Gaza, forming the largest flotilla in history.

ICBSG Statement on the Arrest of Flotilla Activists in Tunisia

Tunisia, with its rich history and honourable record, has long stood at the forefront of nations supporting Gaza and Palestine. From its streets, which have echoed with calls for freedom, to the hearts of its people, overflowing with solidarity, Tunisians have consistently exemplified dignity and honour in standing up for the oppressed.

Accordingly, it is neither fitting for Tunisia’s history nor its distinguished present for the authorities to detain activists working to break the siege on Gaza—individuals who have carried nothing but a noble humanitarian message, serving as voices of the global conscience and striving to lift injustice from our besieged people.

Today, we recall with deep appreciation Dr Mohamed Bennour, who embodied the highest values of sacrifice at Al-Maamadani Hospital in the Gaza Strip. There, he remained steadfast under bombardment and shared in the people’s hunger and displacement, driven solely by his moral duty.

We have received, with profound concern and sorrow, news of Dr Bennour’s arrest a week ago, along with a group of fellow activists: Wael Nawar, Nabil Chenoufi, Jawaher Channa, Ghassan Boughediri, Ghassan Al-Henchiri, and Sana Msahli.

This comes in connection with their work and preparations for the forthcoming flotilla to break the siege, which is expected to be historic in both scale and message.

The International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza affirms that the rightful place of these activists is in the field of humanitarian work, not behind bars.

We call upon the Tunisian authorities, in a spirit of hope, to secure their immediate release, so that they may return to their vital work and to their families with dignity, and spend the coming Eid among their loved ones.

We strongly condemn any attempts to align with occupation propaganda aimed at discrediting this noble endeavour, which seeks to break the siege on a wounded Gaza—a blockade and campaign of destruction unprecedented in modern history.

Together, we are an unstoppable force…

Flotillas to break the siege unite: the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the Freedom and Sumud Flotilla, Thousand Madleens to Gaza, and the Global Sumud Flotilla are joining forces for the Spring 2026 mission.

This is now the largest coordinated maritime action for Palestine in history. For years, these crews have defied the blockade and refused to turn back in the face of intimidation.

Now, we come together as one. No more waiting for ceasefire rhetoric to become reality while the genocide continues. We are showing up at sea—at scale, with one voice. The era of mass coordination has begun. We are directly challenging the blockade and affirming the Palestinian right to dignity and freedom.

There are only roughly 100 Palestinian fishers in Gaza today. In 2000, there were about 10,000. Israel has intentionally targeted fishers in a calculated effort to destroy Palestinian means of subsistence, self-reliance, and livelihood. Through Israel's naval violence, genocidal campaign, severe movement restrictions, and the systematic shrinking of fishing zones, the fishing community in Gaza has been pushed to the brink. Despite it all, fishing remains "... an integral part of Palestinian history and culture, and the motif of a fishing net can be found on the keffiyeh. Fishing is our heritage, our culture, and a vital means of subsistence.”
