🇩🇪 The Cologne 2026 tour is underway! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The Côr Meibion Gwalia boys have arrived safely in Germany and made the most of their first day- taking in Cologne, enjoying some good German food and naturally, sampling a few beers alongside a few songs! 🍻🎶

Tonight we’re heading to Siegburg for the Benefiz Orchester Festival, where we’ll be performing alongside our hosts German Winds, Cantando from Portsmouth and Polizeimusik Quintett from Austria.

A great start to the tour, with plenty more music- and no doubt a few more Kölsch- still to come! 🇩🇪🎶🍻

🎉 Llongyfarchiadau mawr, Jane! 🎉

Côr Meibion Gwalia sends our warmest congratulations to our former accompanist Jane Watts, who has been admitted to Gorsedd Cymru at this year's National Eisteddfod, Eisteddfod y Garreg Las in Pembrokeshire.

Jane was Gwalia's accompanist from 1981 to 1986, before going on to an outstanding international career as an organist.

Jane was the first Welsh woman to give an organ recital at the Royal Festival Hall and later became the first woman to serve as organist and accompanist of the Bach Choir under Sir David Willcocks.

Jane received Y Wisg Werdd – the Green Robe – in recognition of her contribution to the arts.

We're very proud that Jane is part of Gwalia's musical history and delighted to see her receive such a wonderful and well-deserved honour.

🇩🇪 We’re off to Cologne! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Not long to go now until Côr Meibion Gwalia heads to Germany for our 2026 tour!

We’ll be hosted in Cologne by our wonderful friends at German Winds, and will be performing alongside them and Cantando Female Voice Choir from Portsmouth.

Really looking forward to a few days of singing, music, good company, and no doubt a few Kölsch along the way! 🍻

🎉 Happy 90th Birthday, Major Paul! 🎉

On Monday evening, members of Côr Meibion Gwalia had the pleasure of visiting Major Paul at the Royal Star & Garter Home in Surbiton, Surrey, to celebrate his 90th birthday. It was a wonderful evening of singing, sharing memories and catching up with an old friend of the choir.

Paul joined the Gwalia in the 1980s after spotting a small advert in the back window of a car outside a hotel in Paddington. He went on to become a mainstay of the bass section and served as the choir's Treasurer for 13 years.

Those who sang alongside Paul will remember his love of Gilbert and Sullivan, his entertaining renditions of Have Some Madeira, M'Dear? by Flanders and Swann, and, on occasion, the Hong Kong National Anthem. Along with his warmth and friendship, these are just some of the memories that have made him such a valued member of the Gwalia family.

It was a joy to celebrate this special birthday together and from all your friends at Côr Meibion Gwalia, we wish you a very happy 90th birthday, Paul. Here's to many more happy memories! 💚🎶

A very happy birthday to our wonderful friends Mark (B2) and Dave (B1) 🎉

Dave is a long-serving legend of the choir- a cornerstone for decades, including many years as Gwalia’s Secretary. An incredible contribution that speaks for itself.

Mark is a firm part of the fabric of the bass section- great fun, kind, often cracking the backs of the boys as our resident osteopath, and never far from his next fly fishing adventure 🎣

It was great to celebrate with them both after rehearsal, sharing food (thank you Nicola) and a drink upstairs at the London Welsh Centre following a brilliant evening’s singing as we prepare for our tour to Germany later this year.

Thank you both for the drinks- and more importantly, for your friendship and everything you bring to Côr Meibion Gwalia. 💚
