Yes or No vote on Millbank Estate TMO.
Whilst a small but very activist group of Millbank Estate residents want to hand estate management back to Westminster Council, here are 2 other estates’ thoughts that may you make reconsider your voting intention:
During a recent visit to 2 neighbouring estates it was discovered that their residents speak highly of Millbank TMO. One of their residents association has asked whether MEMO board members would be prepared to help with establishing a TMO. The other is considering to become again a TMO after 10 years ago residents voted to close the then TMO and hand management back to the Council. They realise now that a TMO can deliver better results than Council direct management. But it needs consistent, constructive engagement from residents following transparent planning.
Just this week MEMO received its first 100% KPI fulfilment on the quarterly monitoring report issued by WCC. There remain a small number of improvement areas. But when compared across Westminster thr result is excellent and an outstanding achievement across WCC TMOs. It is the first time since 2013/14 and testimony to the new board’s strategy working with staff under new leadership delivering on the turnaround. It all started in late 2023 with the removal of a failing estate director after residents had enough of WCC’s failing TMO scrutiny and elected a new management board. It’s also proof of residents engagement being able to make a significant difference! In the case of MEMO this is further underpinned by first small progress seeds showing from MEMO leadership tenacious and rigorous scrutiny of WCC’s failed oversight on a still ongoing Major Works programme started in 2018! It’s not the TMO responsibility but often eronously attributed to the organisation. But experiencing the negative impact the failing has an all residents and extra costs consequential patchwork repairs have, volunteering board members took “ownership” of the issue. And over tge past 15 years a legacy of collaborative projects with neighbourhood stakeholder organisations provides a seeding ground for a new generation of active residents also in the arts and sustainability involving , , , , and now new Rampayne Street Community Hub.
