ABF The Soldiers’ Charity was established in 1944 to give enduring support to soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of genuine need. Our support is wholly unrestricted by age, conflict or cause and, as long as the need is justified, we will help. The help we give is as accessible to our veteran community as it is to those who find themselves in need following more recent conflicts.

In addition, on behalf of the wider Army Family, we financially support other military and non-military charities.

The Chairwoman and Secretary of the Army Benevolent Fund Middlesex Committee, set off last week on day 2 of their Hat-Trek walk in a cooler conditions from Ponders End. They walked along part of the Lea Valley, the River Lee being part of the old boundary of Middlesex and passed the Markham Museum, a building and surrounding grounds that has changed usage many times during its history.

Their walk encompassed Section 2 and 3 of the Lea Valley Walk. The variations in the river/canal during the walk were numerous, from the very old way marker '5 miles to Old Ford Lock', to the new homes and parks. The scenery was so varied with all the many and different boats moored up and on the move too. Their day finished at Clapton.

On Friday 3rd July, the Chairwoman and Secretary of the Army Benevolent Fund Middlesex Committee set off in the heat on their third personal challenge in three consecutive years.

Diana and Sandy are walking an incredible 80 kms over 8 days.

Their walk got off to a good start from Stanmore station, joined by an ABF staff member from the London Regional Office.
During their first day they enjoyed stunning views of London and Middlesex from a park in Stanmore and enjoyed identifying all the landmarks. It was a fabulous view-point. One for all to see and appreciate.
