🧵 Stitching Brighter Futures at Atchuvely Carmel Academy

At the Sri Lankan Children's Foundation (SLCF), we believe that education is about equipping young people with practical skills that empower them to build independent and successful futures.

We were proud to support Atchuvely Carmel Academy in Jaffna through a project designed to help young people develop sewing skills and explore opportunities in entrepreneurship.

As part of this initiative, SLCF provided:
🧵 Sewing machines for practical training
✂️ Hands-on instruction in the fundamentals of sewing
👗 Opportunities for students to create and present their finished work
🎓 Certificates awarded upon successful completion of the sewing course

Throughout the programme, students gained valuable practical experience while developing creativity, confidence, and technical skills. Their final presentations showcased not only what they had learned but also their dedication, enthusiasm, and potential.

By providing vocational training, this project helps open doors to future employment, self-employment, and small business opportunities—giving students the confidence and skills to create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families.

Congratulations to every student who completed the course. Your hard work and determination are an inspiration, and we look forward to seeing the many ways you will use your new skills in the future.

A heartfelt thank you to our donors and supporters whose generosity continues to create opportunities and transform lives through education and skills development.

🚜 Transforming Lives Through Sustainable Farming in Tissamaharama

**Looking back at a project that made impact in 2021

In Tissamaharama, Hambantota District, many farming families rely on small-scale agriculture as their only source of income. Despite their hard work, limited irrigation and unpredictable rainfall meant that crops often failed, harvests were reduced, and families struggled to break the cycle of poverty.

To help create a lasting solution, SLCF invested £929 to provide a petrol-powered irrigation system, along with the initial seeds and labour needed to establish the project.

The results have been remarkable.
💧 Reliable irrigation for farmland
🌱 Higher-value crops such as watermelons, green chillies, and cucumbers
🌾 Harvests increased from two to four each year
📈 Crop yields more than doubled
👨‍🌾 Greater household income and improved financial stability for 30 farming families

A heartfelt thank you to our donors and supporters whose generosity continues to make life-changing projects like this possible.

Together, we are helping communities grow stronger—one harvest at a time.

💻📚 Opening Doors to Learning at Pedro Estate, Nuwara Eliya

Education has the power to transform lives—but only when children and communities have access to the right opportunities.

At the Sri Lankan Children's Foundation (SLCF), we were proud to invest £1,050 in creating a community learning centre at Pedro Estate, Nuwara Eliya, providing both digital resources and a space that encourages a love of reading.

Located in one of Sri Lanka's economically disadvantaged communities, many families have limited access to computers, the internet, and educational resources. This initiative was designed to help bridge that gap and create new opportunities for learning.

Through this project, SLCF provided:
💻 Five desktop computers
⌨️ Five keyboards
📶 Full Wi-Fi connectivity
📽️ A multimedia projector
📚 A mini library stocked with reading books

The project was made possible with the support of dedicated local volunteers, who helped prepare the centre, install the equipment, and ensure that it would continue serving the community for years to come.

At SLCF, we believe that education is about creating opportunities—not only for today's students but for entire communities.

A heartfelt thank you to our donors, volunteers, and supporters whose generosity continues to make projects like this possible. Together, we are helping communities connect, learn, and thrive.

🎭 Creating a Stage for Confidence and Creativity

At the Sri Lankan Children's Foundation (SLCF), we believe that education is about more than academics—it's also about giving children opportunities to express themselves, build confidence, and celebrate their talents.

In partnership with the Damsara Elderly Society, SLCF was pleased to support Deraniyagala Maha Primary School in the Sabaragamuwa Province by funding a new stage curtain for the school's assembly and performance stage.

Although simple, this addition has made a meaningful difference to the school community. The stage is now a welcoming space for:
🎤 School assemblies
🎭 Drama and cultural performances
🎶 Music and dance programmes
🏆 Prize-giving ceremonies and special events

These activities help students develop confidence, creativity, teamwork, and communication skills—qualities that are just as important as academic achievement.

This project is a wonderful example of how partnerships between community organisations can create lasting benefits for children.

We extend our sincere thanks to the Damsara Elderly Society, our donors, and everyone who helped make this project possible. Together, we are creating environments where every child has the opportunity to learn, perform, and shine.

💻 Investing in Future Leaders Through Digital Access

Education doesn't end at school—and neither does our support.
In 2022, the Sri Lankan Children's Foundation (SLCF) launched a new initiative to help talented university students overcome one of the biggest barriers to higher education: access to technology.

Through a donation of £475, SLCF provided two laptops to carefully selected students from:
🎓 ATI University, Anuradhapura (Science Faculty)
🎓 University of Ruhuna (Engineering Faculty)

These students were chosen not only for their academic achievements but also for their commitment to helping others. Each recipient pledged to share their laptop with fellow students who also lacked access to a computer, ensuring that the support would benefit many more than just two individuals.
For many university students, a laptop is more than a device—it is a gateway to learning, research, online lectures, assignments, and future career opportunities.

By removing financial barriers and encouraging a culture of sharing, this initiative helps talented young people continue their education while extending opportunities to others within their university communities.

At SLCF, we believe that when we invest in one student's future, we often create opportunities for many more.

A heartfelt thank you to our generous donors and supporters for making initiatives like this possible. Together, we are empowering the next generation of scientists, engineers, innovators, and leaders.

Looking back at some special donations done during Christmas time!

🎄 Sharing Joy and Hope at Lawris Children's Hostel

For many of us, Christmas is a time spent with family, celebration, and togetherness. For children living in residential care, these moments of love and belonging are even more meaningful.

As part of our annual Christmas outreach, the Sri Lankan Children's Foundation (SLCF) was honoured to support Lawris Children's Hostel, home to 30 children, by providing a memorable Christmas celebration and essential everyday items through a donation of £524.

Working closely with the hostel, we supplied much-needed essentials, including:
🛏️ Bed sheets and pillowcases
🧸 Pyjamas and slippers
🧼 Soap, shampoo, and personal hygiene items
❤️ Sanitary essentials
The day concluded with a joyful Christmas celebration where the children enjoyed a delicious meal, butter cake, sandwiches, pudding, and time together filled with laughter, fun, and festive cheer.
While practical support is important, creating moments of happiness and belonging is equally valuable. Every child deserves to feel cared for, included, and celebrated—especially during special occasions like Christmas.

A heartfelt thank you to our donors and supporters whose generosity continues to make these moments possible. Together, we are bringing comfort, hope, and happiness to children across Sri Lanka.
✨ Because every child deserves a joyful childhood.

💙 Supporting Education and Families at St. Anthony Primary School, China Bay

The Sri Lankan Children's Foundation (SLCF) was proud to continue its long-standing partnership with St. Anthony Primary School in China Bay, Trincomalee, supporting both students and their families during one of Sri Lanka's most challenging economic periods. Serving around 100 students, the school is located in a community where many families have faced significant hardship.

Our donation focused on two key areas of support:
💻 Maintaining the SLCF Computer Learning Centre
Originally established by SLCF in 2018/2019, the computer centre continues to provide students with access to digital learning opportunities. Our support helped maintain the desktop computers and learning facilities, ensuring that children can continue to build essential computer skills and bridge the digital divide.

🛒 Providing Essential Food Supplies for Families
To help ease the burden on vulnerable households, we also provided food packs containing essential items including rice, dhal, sugar, tea, eggs, and other daily necessities to 30 families connected to the school.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors and supporters. Your kindness is helping strengthen communities, create educational opportunities, and provide hope where it is needed most.

📚 Empowering Education at N/Akarakantha Tamil Vidyalaya

At the Sri Lankan Children's Foundation (SLCF), we believe that every child deserves access to the resources they need to succeed.
As part of our ongoing mission to strengthen education in underserved communities, we were proud to donate a photocopy machine to N/Akarakantha Tamil Vidyalaya.

While it may seem like a simple piece of equipment, its impact will be far-reaching. Teachers can now prepare worksheets, lesson materials, revision papers, and examination resources quickly and efficiently, ensuring that every student has greater access to quality learning materials.

This project is a reminder that meaningful change often begins with practical support. By providing schools with the right tools, we can create lasting opportunities for children to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential.

A sincere thank you to our generous donors and supporters. Your kindness continues to transform classrooms, empower teachers, and invest in the future of Sri Lanka's children.

Together, we are creating brighter futures—one school at a time.
