What a vision Maurice had! The transplant games really are amazing & a lasting legacy to him

The irony that he has passed away while the 48th British Transplant Games were coming to a close on sunday

We are saddened to announce that Transplant Games Founder, Maurice Slapak CBE, has passed away.

Maurice was both an influential Transplant Surgeon and very proficient tennis player. He recognised the aim of rehabilitating organ transplant recipients through activity.

His inspiration and enthusiastic, passionate organisation led to the first ever Transplant Games held on Southsea Seafront in Portsmouth on August 20th 1978.

On behalf of the whole Transplant Sport Family, our deepest condolences go to his family and friends. Maurice will remain deep in the hearts of so many and his legacy will continue to go from strength to strength.

Every Donor pictured on that screen was represented by their family at this years games.

Those photos instigated lots of conversations about our loved ones, who we are forever proud of 😍

Let's hope we get the same again in Birmingham!
