It’s lovely to hear how much our singers enjoyed Saturday evening’s concert!

Bringing together chorus, orchestra and stunning soloists makes for a very special musical experience, and we’re so pleased it was enjoyed by those on stage as well as those in the audience.

Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a wonderful evening.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for our performance of Haydn’s The Creation.

It was wonderful to share this beautiful and uplifting work with you, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came along to support us.

Our heartfelt thanks go to our wonderful soloists, all our singers and musicians for bringing this magnificent work to life. We’d also like to thank Fr Bernhard Schünemann for his support, our concert sponsor Pedder and everyone who worked behind the scenes to bring it all together.

So much goes into making a concert like this happen, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part, whether on stage or behind the scenes.

And, of course, thank you to our audience for joining us and supporting South Dulwich Chorus. We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did!

Thank you to Carry Hornby for the photo.

Many people have heard of Handel's Messiah, but have you discovered Haydn's The Creation?

Written in 1798, it tells the story of the creation of the world through glorious choruses, beautiful solos and a vibrant orchestral score.

It's full of moments of wonder, joy and celebration, making it one of the most loved works in the choral repertoire.

Join us this October to experience it live.

Following on from our last post, some more stars of Haydn's The Creation. Did you spot them all?

1.🐄 Cattle

"The cattle in herds peacefully graze."

2.🦁 Lion

"Cheerful roaring stands the tawny lion."

3. 🐦 Lark

"His welcome bids to morn the merry lark."

(While we can't be sure exactly which of Brueghel's many little birds is the lark, Haydn gave it one of the most delightful musical moments in The Creation.)

4. 🐒 Monkey

"We were told to stop monkeying around"

5. 🐑 Sheep

"Scattered flocks of fleecy, meek and bleating sheep."

1. 🐎 Horse

"With flying mane and fiery look,
impatient neighs the sprightly steed."

2. 🐑 Sheep

"Scattered flocks of fleecy, meek and bleating sheep."

3. 🐱 Cat

"I was asked to sing a solo -
- but it clashed with my afternoon nap"

4.🦜 Parrots

Adding a bit of colour to the proceedings (but not in the libretto)
..while others have cheekily wandered into the painting without ever making it into the libretto.

Art Meets Music

Did you know?

Around 1616, Jan Brueghel the Elder painted The Entry of the Animals into Noah's Ark.

Nearly 180 years later, Joseph Haydn composed The Creation.

Although they were created almost two centuries apart, both celebrate the beauty, variety and wonder of the natural world. That's why Brueghel's painting makes such a fitting image for our performance of Haydn's The Creation.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be taking a closer look at some of the creatures hiding in The Entry of the Animals into Noah's Ark.

The Lion
The Horse
The Stag
..while others have cheekily wandered into the painting without ever making it into the libretto.

Looking at you, Cat.

Can you spot them all?
