With your help, we want to create a nationwide movement to end the postcode lottery of Blue Badges. People with Parkinson’s tell us that:
* local councils don’t understand that Parkinson’s is a progressive, fluctuating, incurable condition
* they’re put through unnecessary and stressful reassessments
* wait times are long before Blue Badge applications are processed.
See how you can support our Blue Badges campaign at: parkinsons.org.uk/fix-blue-badges

Dear London Parkinson's Community, we know this heat can be tough. You will know that people with Parkinson's may find their symptoms become worse in warm weather, but for anyone that is looking for guidance or helpful and tailored information, please see this link for helpful information on coping with hot weather. https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/magazine/tips/keeping-cool

The NHS also has general advice - which you can find here: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/seasonal-health/heatwave-how-to-cope-in-hot-weather/

May we also urge you to please check with organisers that any Parkinson's support group or activity that you are attending, is still taking place BEFORE venturing out, as some events may have had to be cancelled or postponed due to the hot weather.

Thank you, and stay cool!

Hello Londoners, we have 2 more opportunities for people to get involved in research.

As you may know, we’re the leading European funder of Parkinson’s research, searching for the cause, a cure and for better treatments now. Our research is powered by the involvement of people with Parkinson’s, and we're reaching out with new opportunities, this time for people with Parkinson's and for people without Parkinson's in the first of our 2 highlighted options. Would you like to get involved? More info below, and this video that tells you a bit about getting involved in research -https://youtu.be/ykwhqsP4dhs?si=lDnCdUyUYBJOjq5I (Apologies for the length of this post, but we wanted to include as much information as possible.)

Improving Parkinson’s diagnosis using brain scans in London
Researchers want to improve the diagnosis and monitoring of Parkinson’s as it progresses. They’re developing a tool using MRI scans to measure changes in the brain which may be linked to Parkinson’s. This could help to diagnose Parkinson’s earlier.

Who do the researchers need?
20 people with Parkinson’s diagnosed less than 5 years ago
20 people with Parkinson’s diagnosed more than 5 years ago
20 people without Parkinson’s

What is involved?
Visiting the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, you’ll complete a 30 minute screening survey, and a 1 hour MRI scan. Travel expenses can be reimbursed up to £40

For more information, please click here to be taken to our website page, with further information, including participant information sheets. https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/research/projects/improving-parkinsons-diagnosis-using-brain-scans?utm_source=MarketingCloud&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=12.06.2026_Take_part_in_research_RSO_Research_Subscription_Engagement&utm_term=12.06.2026_Take_part_in_research_RSO_Research_Subscription_Engagement&utm_content=Button%3a+M+Elgwely&cm_ainfo=&cm_ven=ExactTarget&cm_cat=12.06.2026_Take_part_in_research_RSO_Research_Subscription_Engagement&cm_pla=All+Subscribers&cm_ite=Button%3a+M+Elgwely
If you have any questions, please contact Dr Mohammed Elgwely by email, [email protected] or call 07861 269 735.
The deadline for taking part in this research is 1 March 2027.

Our second opportunity is only for people with Parkinson's, and is about exploring opinions of using medical cannabis as a treatment for Parkinson’s in England
A PhD researcher is exploring how people with Parkinson’s view the potential use of psychoactive drugs, like medical cannabis, to manage symptoms of the condition. They want to understand why this treatment may appeal to people.

Who do the researchers need?
20 people with Parkinson’s living in England

What is involved?
A 1 hour interview with the researcher in person in Oxfordshire, over the phone or online, or with home visits can also be arranged for people living in London. Your answers will be kept confidential
For more information click here https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/research/projects/exploring-opinions-using-medical-cannabis-treatment-for-parkinsons?utm_source=MarketingCloud&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=12.06.2026_Take_part_in_research_RSO_Research_Subscription_Engagement&utm_term=12.06.2026_Take_part_in_research_RSO_Research_Subscription_Engagement&utm_content=Button%3a+M+Ludwig+TPH&cm_ainfo=&cm_ven=ExactTarget&cm_cat=12.06.2026_Take_part_in_research_RSO_Research_Subscription_Engagement&cm_pla=All+Subscribers&cm_ite=Button%3a+M+Ludwig+TPH
To take part or if you have any questions, please contact Mary Ludwig by email, [email protected] or call 07513 683 131.
The deadline for taking part in this research is 1 September 2026.

Thanks all!

Continuing with the spotlight series, this month we visited the Hammersmith working age parkinson's group.Anna our lead volunteer has this to say:
We are the Working Age group in Hammersmith with a catchment area all over South West London. Our aim is to offer a space to meet and chat for people who are working age and who might struggle to get to events during the day due to work commitments. We meet once a month in the evening at the Riverside studios in Hammersmith. We share knowledge, chat about life with Parkinson's and of course life in general. It has been really heart warming to see how people rally around for each other. The shared knowledge of all of us has solved many an issue. It is just lovely to have people with Parkinson’s around you, who have a can do attitude and are happy to share information and experience. And of course there are plenty of non- parkinson's things to discuss too. Our partners sometimes join us when they feel like it. It is a relaxed venue with a bar and a lovely setting by the river.

We are currently a group of just over 20 people. Happy to grow, so drop us a line if you are planning to come, contact details in the link below. Just in case we have had to change plans that month. Usually we meet every 3rd Tuesday a month at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith from 18:30 till 20:00/ 21:00 is depending on our energy. The venue it 10 minutes walk from Hammersmith tube station. We try for someone to be wearing a Parkinson's UK T shirt so we are recognisable.

We couldn't let the start of the Football World Cup go by without highlighting our own great footballers and football activities across London. Many of us across London will be watching and cheering for the World Cup matches, but you can also get involved and get active with football across the capital.

We are lucky to have great football clubs across London, and with so many of them providing Walking Football activities that the Parkinson's community can join. You can find Walking Football activities in Bromley (Bromley Football Club Community Sports Trust), Charlton Athletic in Eltham (Charlton Athletic Community Trust), Chelsea (Chelsea Football Club Foundation), Kew Park Rangers in Roehampton, Sutton FC (Sutton United FC Foundation), Wimbledon (AFC Wimbledon Foundation), West Ham (West Ham United Foundation) and Wimbledon (AFC Wimbledon Foundation.

For more information on these and more activities, you can put your postcode in the lookup tool on the website, or email as at [email protected]

We'd like to say thank you to the people and clubs involved, and encourage you all to go along and give it a try!

Hello London, can you help us reach out and meet people newly diagnosed with Parkinson's, or those that are new to Parkinson's UK and the support and services we offer here in London.

We are now offering a series of online sessions to reach people who are newly diagnosed, or who are new to Parkinson's UK. These one hour sessions will be run online and hosted by our London Parkinson's Local Adviser team, and will allow for you to connect with the team and find out about the support and activities available from Parkinson's UK and in your local area. There will be time for questions, and we hope it will provide an informal and friendly welcome to our community.
