Today we joined , and outside the SXSW festival at the Truman brewery. SXSW is a huge tech festival celebrating the future of AI, being held at the very site where a data centre is being proposed despite the local community crying out for social housing to be built instead.

Data centres are being proposed at the expense of local communities across the country, putting a massive strain on water and power supplies as well as delaying much needed housing projects.

That’s why we’re calling for a moratorium on all new data centres until the Government produces a credible, needs-based plan for how many of them we need, where and what for. Head to the link in our bio to sign our petition to

I am pleased to announce that our Local Plan has been submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination today.

Our Local Plan is historic for our borough and ensures that our policies meet the unique needs of our growing community. The plan sets out how development will support our increasing population, including the delivery of over 50,000 new homes over the next 15 years. Our updated policies ensure that at least 40% of the homes built in the borough will be social and predominantly family sized. It also updates our policies across key areas such as Housing, Employment, Environment, Connectivity, Infrastructure, and Waste Management.

This submission is a long-time in the making. I want to thank council officers for working diligently over the past years to ensure the delivery of this historic Local Plan.
