ECHO Charity - Evelina Children's Heart Organisation Welcome to ECHO's page.

ECHO’s (Evelina Children's Heart Organisation) mission is to provide support for the whole family of children and young people treated for cardiac problems within the Guy's and St Thomas's network This is a public page and has been created to help raise awareness, post the latest ECHO news and provide information & support to members and fundraisers. ECHO also offers a closed members only parent support group designed to enable members to access direct support from other heart parents whose child is treated by the Evelina London. You can only access the private group once you are a member of ECHO, it's free to join: echo-uk.org/join

George is now 12 years old and is an active ECHO teens member – He was born with complex congenital heart disease (CHD).

Peake excitement on Galaxy Ward

ECHO members Emily and Ben came to the official opening of Galaxy Ward today to unveil their artwork with Andrew and Mia.

A very special guest was launching the new ward - Tim Peake CMG, British European Space Agency Astronaut.

It was so lovely to be there for the rope cutting where we counted down to blast off as the outpatients clinic officially became open! We also got to see the plaque be revealed as well!

Emily and Ben got to design different space themed creatures and Ben’s alien is in the background of their picture and Emily’s dog is hiding behind Andrew! They really enjoyed getting to question Tim Peake and we’re excited to see their interviews 🚀👽

Reading alongside families in Hospital

Last week we announced our Bedtime Stories Programme! It’s been so wonderful to see how children and families interact with the stories! The feedback has been lovely to hear.

We want every family to benefit from this wonderful resource - every child should have access to the experience of story time. We are making this possible by having books available in dual languages. Whilst we read the books to you, you see the translation on the page!

If you would like to help, bring stories to life and can read in: Somali, Arabic, Spanish, French, Polish, Mandarin, Urdu, Bengali, Turkish, Italian, Hindi, Russian, Portuguese, Romanian, Greek, German, Tagalog or can sign in BSL. Please get in touch to find out about volunteering with our Bedtime Story programme, email: [email protected].

If you and your child and would like a visit from our wonderful storytellers, we have a sign-up sheet available on our website. Here you can request for us to read a story by the bedside as well as requesting for a book in another language. We have lots of familiar stories and traditional folktales! Across the Bridges...

A huge thank you and good luck to the Tower Midwives Team, who on Sunday 25th October will be taking on a 13 mile walk across London’s bridges, from Putney Embankment to Tower Bridge, to raise awareness and money for ECHO.

We want to take this opportunity to recognise the incredible care and support the Tower Midwives Team provide to children born with heart conditions and their families. The compassion, dedication and reassurance they offer during what can be an incredibly difficult and uncertain time makes such a difference.

We're so grateful to work alongside teams like Tower Midwives, who share our commitment to supporting heart families, and we're incredibly thankful that they've chosen to take on this challenge for ECHO.

When families stay at Evelina & St Thomas’, many will journey across these bridges. This makes the challenge very meaningful - taking the same steps as families.

A BIG shoutout to Ollie & Alfie!

These two superstars joined Team ECHO for work experience back in September and certainly got stuck in!

From dreaming up exciting projects for our ECHO Teens and creating care packs to spreading smiles on our weekly tea trolley they did it all and so much more!

A HUGE thank you to you both for your hard work, creativity & enthusiasm and office jokes!

And if you spotted them perfecting their signature ‘X’ move… they weren't auditioning for The X Factor but all will be revealed soon… keep your eyes peeled for some of their amazing creations!

We're incredibly proud to announce an exciting new chapter for ECHO's Bedtime Stories programme, made possible thanks to the generous support of statom. Because every child deserves a bedtime story.

What began over 10 years ago as a simple act of kindness from our wonderful volunteer Chris, who started donating children's books to ECHO for us to deliver in the hospital it has grown into something truly special.

With the support of Team Cardiology and Volunteer Services at GSTT, Bedtime Stories has become a dedicated in-hospital service, bringing comfort, connection and moments of normality to children and families.

Now, we're taking the programme even further, with a trained actor helping us develop our team and strengthen the support we offer. Because Bedtime Stories is about so much more than books.

With bedtime stories we are able to offer families emotional reassurance and a chance to escape the challenges of hospital life, even if just for a little while. These moments make a lasting impact, strengthen family bonds, bring comfort during difficult times and create precious memories that families can carry with them long after their hospital stay.

As you may have seen the excitement of our Marathon and London Landmarks team has begun!

Today we are excited to introduce some of our amazing runners taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2027, hitting the streets of London to tackle 13.1 miles for ECHO!

Every runner has their own special reason for taking on this challenge, but all for the shared reason of wanting to continue supporting children and young people with heart conditions and their families.

And this year, our very own Lilly is stepping outside her comfort zone and taking on the half marathon too! - if you know Lilly, you will know she is definitely not a runner, but with the inspirational stories behind Team ECHO and the support and encouragement of the rest of the team, she is going to try her very best!

This is just part of our incredible team, so keep your eyes peeled as we announce more runners soon!

Everyone at Team ECHO is sending the biggest birthday wishes to Mia and Lilly who are celebrating this week.

From special visits from Eddie to a trip to the café, we’ve been finding ways to make their birthdays special.

Every November, Team ECHO come together to celebrate everyone’s birthdays, achievements and special occasions.

Because not everyone’s birthday falls at the same time, it’s lovely to have a moment when we can celebrate together!

A HUGE ECHO THANK YOU TO THE INCREDIBLE MEGAN AND HER MUM SUZY!

We want to say well done to Megan and her mum, Suzy, who took on the 96-mile West Highland Way from 28th September to 5th October, all in support of ECHO!

Not only have they completed this amazing challenge together, but they have also raised an unbelievable £1,800 for ECHO, smashing the original fundraising target!

At 16, Megan was diagnosed with a patent ductus arteriosus and underwent heart surgery. Because of the support she received, Megan wanted to give back and help other children and families facing the challenges that come with a heart condition, and she has inspired so many and is making such a wonderful difference.

But just like the challenge itself, Megan isn't stopping here! Despite already exceeding the original target, she is determined to keep going!

From everyone at ECHO and in our community - thank you so much, Megan and Suzy! Your determination, generosity and incredible achievement mean so much to us and the families we support.

Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported Megan along the way, too!
