Today we had the pleasure of attending the first day of Fatima Whitbread’s One Voice Summit at the Guildhall in London. We were incredibly proud to see some of our A National Voice ambassadors speaking to a huge audience, bravely sharing their experiences of what makes a home a home through the journey in and throughout care.

They also reminded us how powerful it is to believe in yourself, have goals, and hold onto your aspirations – no matter the challenges.

Last week one of our reading helpers attended Lambeth Council's Civic Awards ceremony having been selected as a finalist in their Volunteer of the Year award!

Sadly, Janine didn't win on the night, but she's a winner in our book - and the Lambeth school where she volunteers say she's "absolutely brilliant" and the impact she's had, on the children she reads with, is "unbelievable"! One thing's for sure, the children are definitely winning by having her weekly support.

We're incredibly grateful for the time and dedication that all our volunteers give to children in their community but it's always lovely when their service is acknowledged and rewarded by those communities.

Thank you to the judges on the Lambeth Civic Awards committee for including Janine as a finalist and for giving her such a wonderful evening, during which she was thrilled to be sat with the legendary Levi Roots and the film director, producer and scriptwriter Fredi Nwaka!

Coram and the Thomas Coram Coram Research Unit (based at UCL) invite you to attend the Annual Coram/TCRU Lecture to consider current themes in research relevant to children and families.

This year’s lecture will focus on children and young people migrating on their own to the UK, the persistent disconnects between the realities of young people’s lives and current policy and practice responses, and the value of more fully engaging the voices and experiences of young people in research, policy debate and beyond.

Based on research over two decades with many colleagues, Professor Elaine Chase (UCL) will highlight some of the persistent challenges in providing children and young people with the support and resources they require to build safe and fulfilling lives in the UK.

The talk will be followed by responses from Amina Meshnuni and Abdullahi Yusuf, graduates of Coram’s Young Citizens programme, a discussion panel on directions for policy reform, and an audience Q&A.

Our Parent Champions Conference and Awards take place on 13 and 14 May. The Awards recognise the achievements and dedication of more than 350 amazing volunteers who together support 49,500 families In 2024, Orleen in Wandsworth, and Linda in Kingston & Richmond won the Biggest Impact Award.

PACEY has today transferred into the Coram Group and will be known as Coram PACEY.

Coram PACEY is the professional association dedicated to supporting home-based child carers, including childminders and nannies, to provide high quality services, information and advice to children, their families and carers.
