Established in 2011, London Music Fund is an independent charity with the Mayor of London as Patron. We realise this is a major challenge.

Established in 2011, the London Music Fund is an independent charity with the Mayor of London as Patron. Our vision is that every child who demonstrates significant musical ability, enthusiasm and commitment to learning an instrument is given the opportunity to develop their potential. However, by working in partnership with local Music Services we believe we can change the face of music education in the capital and in fact know that we are already making a major difference.

Our Story: 15 years of music and opportunity

From our first Junior Scholarships in 2011 to supporting over 1,000 young musicians across every London borough, our journey has been shaped by the incredible talent, dedication and ambition of the young people we support, and by the partners, Ambassadors and supporters who make our work possible.

Meet our August Junior Scholar of the Month: Connor!

Since 2023, Connor, has brought incredible dedication to his LMF journey, never missing a single workshop or Playing Day. Connor is a valued member of Havering Music School and has made the most of every opportunity since becoming and LMF Scholar. He has played at the BBC Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, and even been interviewed on Scala Radio by saxophonist YolanDa Brown.

Now entering the final year of his Junior Scholarship, Connor has his Grade 5 Trumpet Exam on the horizon. We are immensely proud of Connor's remarkable progress.

What does 15 years of the London Music Fund sound like?

At our 15th anniversary concert in April, conductor and educator Adam Gibbs led a specially commissioned work that captured the unique mix of musical styles, experiences and voices that make up the LMF community. Created in collaboration with LMF Scholars and City of London School, the piece was a powerful celebration of everything LMF has achieved since 2011.

What a truly unforgettable day at the Royal Academy of Music as we celebrated the graduation of our 2022–26 Junior Scholar cohort and our 2025–26 Senior Scholars on 21 June.

We were delighted to welcome guest speaker Rosanna Ter-Berg, multi-flautist, improviser and creative collaborator, whose inspiring words encouraged our Scholars as they take their next steps in music and beyond.

A highlight of the day was the performance of LMF's 15th Anniversary Commission, a special work co-created by LMF Scholars. The programme also featured a powerful performance of A Night on the Bare Mountain, with both works expertly conducted by Spencer Down.

We were also proud to present the Raymi Willka Saldaña Rojas Award to Nir’el, a drum kit player from Hackney Music Service.

Congratulations to all of our graduating Scholars. We are so proud of everything you have accomplished and look forward to seeing where your musical journeys take you next.

July Junior Scholar of the Month - Bobby

Since becoming a London Music Fund Junior Scholar in 2022 with Havering Music School, Bobby has shown exceptional commitment to his musical development.

Bobby is currently working at Grade 6 level on violin, Grade 1 piano and saxophone, and has also taken the initiative to teach himself the drums. Since 2022, Bobby has taken part in over 120 concerts, performances, courses and workshops, demonstrating an exceptional level of commitment and enthusiasm for music.

We are so proud of our Senior Scholar, Georgina, for speaking to a full Smith Square Hall about her experience with LMF at our 15th Anniversary Concert. Georgina was awarded her LMF Junior Scholarship in 2019 and, after four years, progressed on to our Senior Scholarship for a further two years.
