Established in 2011, the London Music Fund is an independent charity with the Mayor of London as Patron. Our vision is that every child who demonstrates significant musical ability, enthusiasm and commitment to learning an instrument is given the opportunity to develop their potential. However, by working in partnership with local Music Services we believe we can change the face of music education in the capital and in fact know that we are already making a major difference.

We were delighted to be featured in Music Teacher Magazine's 2027 Scholarships Guide, with our Chief Executive, Chris Stones, reflecting on the vital role music scholarships play in helping young people continue their musical journeys.

As Chris explains, London Music Fund exists to work alongside Music Services, schools and teachers, providing the "missing puzzle pieces" that help committed young musicians overcome financial barriers and access sustained, high-quality musical opportunities.

LMF's role is to strengthen the wider music education ecosystem by filling gaps in provision, ensuring that committed young musicians can continue their musical journey and fulfil their potential in music and beyond.

Thank you to Music Teacher Magazine and Claire Jackson for shining a light on the importance of equitable access to music education and the partnerships that make this work possible.

We are delighted to share that the London Music Fund has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Musical Initiative Award at the Music & Drama Education Awards 2027.

Since our Junior Scholarships Programme received this award in 2021, we have expanded our offer to create a complete progression pathway for young musicians aged 8-18 through our Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Scholarship Programmes. We are therefore particularly pleased to be recognised once again among the sector's leading musical initiatives and to celebrate how our support for young musicians has grown over the past five years.

We look forward to celebrating alongside our fellow finalists in 2027!

Ruby joined London Music Fund as a Junior Scholar with Camden Music Service in 2021. A talented multi-instrumentalist, she has spent the past four years developing her skills across the viola, violin and bass guitar, embracing a wide range of musical opportunities and experiences along the way.

This October, Ruby will take the next step in her musical journey as she joins our Senior Scholarship Programme. We are delighted to continue supporting her as she builds on her achievements, explores new opportunities, and develops her talents across multiple instruments. We cannot wait to see all that she accomplishes this year!

As a violin Scholar with Lambeth Music Service, Eleanor was part of our Junior Scholarship Programme from 2019 to 2023. She returned as a Senior Scholar in 2025 and is continuing her scholarship this academic year.

Throughout her time with London Music Fund, Eleanor has demonstrated determination, creativity and a deep love of music. It has been fantastic to see her continue developing as a violinist, and we look forward to supporting her as she reaches new milestones this year.

Seven years on, Bishop continues to make the most of every musical opportunity with LMF.

Bishop was a Junior Scholar with Ealing Music Service from 2019 to 2023, learning drums, and joined our Senior Scholarship Programme in 2024. We are so pleased that Bishop will continue with us throughout the 2026-27 academic year as a Senior Scholar.

Over the years, Bishop has shown real commitment to his musical development, growing in confidence and refining his skills as a drummer. We are delighted to continue supporting him and look forward to seeing what he achieves next.

From receiving her Junior Scholar Award in 2019 to speaking on stage in front of more than 300 guests at our 15th Anniversary Concert, seeing Georgina progress from Junior Scholar to Senior Scholar has been a privilege for everyone at London Music Fund.

After graduating from our Junior Scholarship Programme in 2023, Georgina joined our Senior Scholarship Programme in 2024 and will continue her scholarship with us throughout the 2026-27 academic year.

Following Georgina's development on the violin and her growth as a young musician has been a joy. We are incredibly proud of all she has achieved and cannot wait to see what this academic year holds for her!

For more than a decade, our Playing Days have brought together Scholars from across our programmes for days of creativity, collaboration and music-making.

Working alongside professional workshop leaders and their peers, young musicians have the opportunity to develop new skills, create original compositions, and perform to family and friends. Hosted in inspiring venues including Conway Hall and Smith Square Hall, these days foster confidence, artistic expression and a strong sense of community among our Scholars.

As we mark 27 Playing Days held since 2011, Georgina's words highlight the lasting value of these opportunities, not only in developing musical skills, but also in nurturing confidence, connection and a lifelong love of music.

Our November Playing Day will be a particularly special occasion, as we welcome our new Intermediate Scholar cohort for the first time.
