UCL is pleased to be able to announce the New Nordic Voices Film Festival, running from 02.10.26-04.10.26 at UCL Community Cinema, One Pool Street, Stratford, London, E20 2AF.

This three-day festival features 14 recent films from across the Nordic region in Greenlandic, Finnish, Danish, members of the Sámi language group, Norwegian, Icelandic, Swedish, Faroese, and Old Norse (all with English subtitles).

All films will feature introductions by relevant academic experts, and the festival will conclude with the UK premiere of the Faroese film, The Last Paradise on Earth, and a Q&A with the film's director.

The Anglo-Danish Society's members and friends are welcome to attend all screenings, but of particular interest may be Walls, a Greenlandic documentary about women in the prison system, Sons, a Danish psychological thriller by Möller, and of course the Faroese premiere to close the festival.

'Don't Know U Don't Know', by the Danish writer/actor/producer Jacob Utzon Krefeld.

A new play, Don’t Know U Don’t Know (working title), exploring coercive control, domestic abuse and the resilience of female friendships. Inspired by true events and developed over the past four years. The project has been supported by Arts Council England, Jorcks Fund, Glashoflegatet and Den Danske Dramatikers Produktionspulje and is being developed in partnership with DASH Charity and domestic abuse specialists.

Who's attending our next Members' Table Lunch at L'Escargot on Thursday 17th September 2026?

The speaker for this event has now been announced:

Michael Pugh, a lawyer and academic, is the speaker at our lunch. He has been a keen observer of life in the former Soviet Union since his first visit to Moscow as a student in 1992. He has written about Ukraine for the Sunday Times and the Royal Geographical Society and spent six years as a partner for a law firm in Moscow before leaving by horse. A book entitled “Riding through War and Peace” has just been published, which recounts his adventures. This promises to be a very entertaining talk.
