📓 Volunteer Diary – A Weekend That Changed Me

By Mira

I still remember my first day volunteering with Asha (HOPE), London. I walked in with the idea that I would be teaching underprivileged kids—but what I didn’t realize was how much they would end up teaching me.

On Day 1, a little girl named Mehak walked up to me and shyly said, “Didi, aap kal bhi aaoge?” That one sentence melted something in me. I realized how much these children crave consistency, attention, and love—things many of us take for granted.

Over the weeks, I’ve seen kids who were once scared to speak, now confidently narrate stories in front of the group. I've helped distribute meals, organize art sessions, and even laughed along with them during silly dance games. Every Saturday feels less like ‘volunteering’ and more like coming home to a bunch of little humans who just want to be seen.

Volunteering here has made me more patient, more empathetic, and deeply aware of how small acts can create big change. If you’ve ever thought about giving your time to a cause do it. The lives you’ll touch will end up touching yours in ways you never imagined.
