France has announced plans to end its reliance on US data analytics firm Palantir, replacing the company’s software within its domestic intelligence service with tools developed by French technology company ChapsVision.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said the move is part of a broader effort to ‘reduce dependence on foreign technology’ and strengthen French and European digital sovereignty. He argued that France must develop its own AI and data-processing capabilities rather than rely on systems controlled by other countries.
The transition is expected to take several years, as Palantir’s existing contract remains in force while the new system is implemented. Palantir is controversially known for its ties to the Israeli military and US immigration enforcement (ICE).
In response to Lecornu’s statement, Palantir said its contract with France’s domestic intelligence agency remains active and that it will continue supporting the agency during the transition period.
