📚 Project completed: Community Reading Corner in rural Bangladesh

The Rotary Club of Paddington has finished a Community Reading Corner at Kaliganj Adarsha Primary School in rural Gazipur, Bangladesh — a dedicated space where children can read regularly and build strong literacy skills.

We provided shelving, seating, and a starter collection of age-appropriate educational and reference books (general knowledge, science, geography, history, and values education). Teachers will supervise the corner and include reading activities in the school routine to keep it active and growing.

This project directly benefits 200 students and supports the teachers who guide them every day.

At Rotary, one of our key goals is conflict prevention and peacebuilding — and this festival beautifully contributes to that mission. By giving voice to women’s perspectives on war, peace, and human rights, it fosters empathy, dialogue, and understanding across cultures.

Last year, during our 100th Anniversary Celebration, the Rotary Club of Paddington raised funds for Таблеточки to support children battling cancer and the National Children’s Specialized Hospital Okhmatdyt in Kyiv.

💛 This summer, those donations — over USD 30,000 — made a tangible difference:

• Six departments of Okhmatdyt received essential medicines and supplies.
• 29 children received diagnostic tests and life-saving treatments.

Thanks to your generosity, these children have access to care not covered by state programs, and hospitals can restock what doctors need to save young lives.

🙏 Thank you for standing with children caught between two wars - the war for freedom and the war for life.

Your compassion continues to bring light, healing, and hope where it’s needed most.

🌟 Rotary Club of Paddington: proud participants in the Rotary Club Of London International Gala Reception 🌟

On Thursday, 14th November, the Rotary Club of Paddington joined the Rotary Club of London, the Bulgarian Embassy, and the British Bulgarian Business Association for an unforgettable evening at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria.

This black-tie event wasn’t just a celebration of elegance and culture—it was a powerful demonstration of Rotary’s commitment to service. With proceeds supporting the Bulgarian Stroke Association, the evening highlighted the importance of providing care, hope, and resources to families affected by stroke.

The gala brought together inspiring performances, a silent auction, and heartfelt conversations—all driven by a shared mission to create meaningful impact. We are proud to have been part of such a noble initiative, reaffirming our dedication to making a difference both locally and globally.

This year’s festival shines a spotlight on Ukraine, exploring the human stories of love, loss, and courage that emerge from these challenging times.

🌍 Our Club Members Join the Fight Against Polio!

We are incredibly proud to announce our club’s active participation in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Led by WHO, UNICEF, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Rotary International, the GPEI provides crucial support to governments in polio-affected countries.

Through its PolioPlus program, established in 1985, Rotary was the first to envision a polio-free world. Our primary responsibilities include fundraising, advocacy, and volunteer recruitment.

Feeling honored to be a part of this movement! Our members have generously contributed £1,000 to the Rotary International project Miles to End Polio, initiated by Rotary International General Secretary John Hewko and Rotary International staff. Additionally, our club has made contributions to the World Polio Fund.

We are also thrilled to share that our club member, Oksana Souter, participated in a special evening event with global health leaders organized by Rotary Club of Stratford. The event featured key insights from Arshad Quddus from the World Health Organization, Girish Menon, former CEO of UNICEF UK, Jimmy Innes, CEO of Lepra UK, and Eve Conway, Rotary International Director. They discussed the progress of the global effort to eradicate polio, the critical role of international partnerships, and Rotary’s enduring commitment to this important cause.
