Thanks to everyone who came to see the two film we screened - badged under "Class and Culture" at the Rio cinema, ("What's On? Rethinking Class in the TV industry" and "Quiet on Set: The Class Division in the Film Industry?" by Mark Forbes.

The audience enjoyed both films and the discussion with Q&A panel (From left to right: Denise Alder, Mark Forbes, Dave O'Brien and Ayvianna Snow) was lively at times!

PCS/Prospect members working at the V&A Museum are taking strike action on 25/26 September. "Class and Culture": Q&A panel
We have a fantastic Q&A panel following the screening of two films looking at class in the culture sector – at the Rio Cinema on Saturday 26 September between 2.00-4.30pm.

Mark Forbes is the director of our first film, "Quiet on Set: The Class Division in the Film Industry". He is an award-winning Scottish filmmaker from Aberdeenshire and an activist for working-class inclusion in the film and TV industries. His work explores social issues in contemporary Britain.

Denise Alder is a multi-award-winning filmmaker, including a Grierson prize and Emmy nominations. She has produced and directed documentaries for BBC, Netflix, and Channel 4. Denise is also involved in “We Are Doc Women” (https://wearedocwomen.co.uk/).

Dave O'Brien is Professor of Cultural and Creative Industries at the University of Manchester. He has written extensively on key issues in the cultural and creative economy. His policy work includes the ground-breaking “Measuring the value of culture” report, and he was a co-author on the” Panic!” report as well as the Creative Majority report.

The discussion will be chaired by Ayvianna Snow, British Indie Horror Artist of the Year (2026, leading Equity union activist and Co-Secretary of the Regional TUC’s ”Creative & Leisure Industries Committee”.

The Regional TUC's "Creative & Leisure" Industries Committee has helped organise the screening of two films at the Rio Cinema, (107 Kingsland High St, London E8 2PB) on 26 September between 2.30-4.30pm - under the banner of "Class and Culture", (see: https://riocinema.org.uk/Rio.dll/WhatsOn?f=2860962

The two films look at class in two areas - film and TV. This is an important issue as, for example, culture is now the third biggest sector of the London economy.
