Student nurses! Here’s what you need to know about the Autumn Budget.

The UK government’s Budget is set to arrive at the end of October. What it says will impact...
1️⃣ The money in your pocket
2️⃣ The care you will provide
3️⃣ The jobs available to you

What’s the RCN got to do with it?
We’re the world’s largest nursing union and professional body so we can talk directly to governments about what student nurses need.

We say that the Budget must:
1️⃣ Reduce the financial burden on student nurses.
How? ⬇️
An additional £5,000 a year in non-repayable maintenance support for every student nurse and a loan forgiveness scheme that is linked to years of service in health and care.

2️⃣ Help newly registered nurses to secure their first nursing role.
How? ⬇️
A national relocation scheme, offering £10,000 in tax free support if you need to move for a nursing job, and dedicated recruitment funding for some workplaces, increasing available opportunities.

Plus a host of other measures we think will help make nursing fit for the future.

SIGN THE OPEN LETTER 📝

No nursing graduate should complete their degree without a clear route into employment when demand is rising and nursing vacancies remain unfilled across health and care.

An urgent plan from health leaders and the Westminster government is needed.

Sign the RCN UK Students Committee open letter to Duncan Burton, Chief Nursing Officer for England, calling for action to improve employment opportunities for newly registered nurses.

🎉 RCN campaign win!

As a nursing student in England, you will now be able to get your placement expenses paid in advance, instead of having to wait for a reimbursement.

This change is welcome and will ease financial pressure on students. But there’s more to do. We need a comprehensive new package of financial support for nursing students, bold reform to a broken tuition fee model, and measures to ensure all nursing graduates can secure employment.
