2nd Leytonstone Sea Scouts

2nd Leytonstone Sea Scouts Local scout group / registered charity Scouting offers them the independence to put these skills into practice at camps and even on international trips.

Here at Leytonstone Sea Scouts, we aim to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure, and outdoor skills, as well as encourage them to explore their beliefs and attitudes and be creative. The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group. Beaver Scouts are young people aged between 6 and 8 years old. Beavers are our youngest members and generally meet for

an hour per week. Fridays 5pm - 6:15pm. They enjoy all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, explore their local community and experience the excitement of a Beaver Scout Sleepover with their friends. The Cub Pack is the second section of the Scout Group following on from Beavers. Cub Scouts are young people aged between 8 and 10 ½. Cubs meet on Thursdays from 6pm -7.15pm. For Cubs, excitement and adventure are key. Their programme offers a huge variety of activities surrounding areas of fitness, global and beliefs; whilst allowing them to be creative and get involved in their local communities. Cubs are introduced to exciting outdoor skills and take part in adventurous activities, as well as camps and residential experiences. The Scout Troop is the third section in the Scout Group, above Beavers and Cubs. The Sea Scout Section is for young people aged between 10½ and 14 years. Meeting again on Thursdays at 7.30pm -9pm. Sea Scouting has the same Purpose and Values as any other Scout Troop, and delivers the same Programme, but with a nautical twist. All young people in Scouting have the opportunity to enjoy water activities, but in Sea Scouting, considerable emphasis is on these activities, and many aspects of naval and nautical traditions are incorporated. Scouts are encouraged to work together and take the lead on all sorts of projects, from community based work to planning games and activities for their meetings. We are based in Malvern Road , Leytonstone E11

Last week the cubs had a very exciting visitor - our local MP Calvin Bailey.

He spoke to them about his time in the Royal Air Force, what Members of Parliament do and they even had a Q&A session.

It was a good session!

Last week the cubs had a crisp tasting where they blind tasted different flavours and had to guess them in their six. It was great fun and they even enjoyed some 🦀 crisps! They then wrote letters to crisp companies suggesting new flavours!

Over the weekend our Young Leaders and leaders went on a trip to Chatham Docks.

They were very lucky with the weather and had a brilliant day! ☀️

They climbed aboard the submarine HMS Ocelot, visited the Ropery and saw an exhibition on the RNLI. This trip was a recce mission for the Young Leaders before we take the Cub pack later this spring. Lots of walking but they kept good spirits throughout.

It was the Scouting Associations Founders Day yesterday so they also all spoke about what that means.

Well done, Young Leaders!

Today was our Christmas lunch open to our young people, their families and friends of our pack.

People brought dishes they had made and it was a lovely celebration of what we’ve achieved this year. Akela made a delicious minestrone soup with dumplings. There were home made sausage rolls, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire puddings, and lots of cake!

We were even lucky enough to be given a special circus performance by some of the scouts.

Merry Christmas to you all and see you in the new year. 🎄 🎄 🎄

Our young leaders made the most of the sunny (but chilly!) weather yesterday by going on an 11km walk in Epping Forest 🌳. The aim of the day was to practise using a map and compass…and have lots of fun of course. Well done!

The cubs went on a very special outing to the Imperial War Museum on Saturday. They were accompanied by local guest Ron who will be sharing his stories about growing up during the World War 2 in next week’s meeting.

The cubs visited the World War 1 and 2 exhibitions and learned about London during the conflicts. They also completed the museum challenge - well done!

It was a special day where the museum was filled with scouts and cubs from around the country.

Did you know that scouts assisted the war effort by performing tasks such as guarding important buildings, delivering messages and helping at air raids?
