ArtSocial Foundation

ArtSocial Foundation We fund art therapy for children with disabilities, long-term illnesses & mental health issues. Together, we can transform lives through art.

Backed by scientific research, our projects improve children's wellbeing, self-esteem & increase life prospects. Proven to improve mental wellbeing and life prospects, we believe that all children deserve access to the arts. Research shows that arts-based activities develop communication, improve memory and strengthen fine-motor skills. It's even proven that creative participation increases academ

ic potential and self-esteem! Yet, mainstream art clubs have limited opportunities for children with complex needs. Our projects target children with special education needs, long-term illnesses or mental health issues. Working with experts in Russia and the UK, we deliver art programmes to children who otherwise face exclusion. By investing in art therapy, inclusive teaching and professional development, we aim to make the arts accessible to all. Together, we can transform lives through the power of art. 7-year-old Ella is a talented artist and winner of the Kolsobora art contest that we support.

Ella pays incredible attention to detail, spending hours on each artwork to make sure it turns out exactly how she imagined.

Ella’s mother said that the competition was a brilliant opportunity to help the participants explore and develop their creativity.

“The competition guidelines did not put strict limits on what the children could create - which was freeing and exciting for those taking part. And the results were beautiful! I think competition is healthy for the children, even if they don’t win it gives them the chance to analyse why? How could they win next time? It’s important to their development as it teaches them the importance of working-hard and seeing the payback when they finally do win!”

The siblings of children with additional needs can sometimes feel that they do not get as much attention or have as much time to a child if they are helping with caring responsibilities.

Our charity partners realise that it’s important to support all members of the family, not only the child with additional needs or long-term illness.

Our partner does this by allowing the siblings of children with special education needs to enter their specialist arts competition and programme, making them feel included and also a chance to celebrate their talent (pictured 👆🏼)

Our therapists in a leading children’s hospice offer art therapy sessions for the whole family to process their trauma and individual feels around the situation.

By supporting the whole family, every child is given the opportunity to flourish. ❤️

Iris Grace is a talented artist, who was once labelled 'The-5-year-old-Monet' because of her incredible talent.

At two-years-old, Iris Grace was diagnosed with autism and found mainstream methods of communication difficult. However, her mother was determined to find a way for Iris Grace to communicate with the world in a way that she felt comfortable and introduced her to many different activities.

Iris Grace took to painting naturally - she has an instinctive sense of colour and uses it to create beautiful, abstract paintings. While creating, it is clear to see how happy art makes Iris Grace.

There is no reason that children with special education needs cannot have a natural talent for art. It can be common for children who see and experience the world differently to have natural creative gifts - however, mainstream learning styles can leave children with additional needs feeling excluded and prevent them from developing their natural talent.

We work with expert partners to deliver specialist educational arts workshops. Specialist workshops like these increase self-esteem, encourage self-expression and develop communication skills.

However, some children need to be taught activities in a way that suits their learning needs.

Despite the circumstances that our world is facing, we are continuing to work on what we have been doing for the past 7 years - supporting the mental health and development of the most vulnerable children with physical and mental health needs.

True to our roots and heritage, we will continue to support projects that help vulnerable children in the UK and Russia. However, in response to the current crisis, we will also be working to provide psychological support to children fleeing the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

While we work behind-the-scenes to understand how we can best respond to the emergency needs of children in this highly challenging context, visit our blog for some ideas of other ways that you can support the people of Ukraine through arts: http://artsocial.uk/blog/Ukraine

Did you know these 4 benefits of arts for children...? 👇🏽

1. Promoting creativity through arts activities can help children think outside the box and find innovative solutions in other aspects of their life!

2. Helps strengthen neural connections in the brain when children’s senses are activated through the process of seeing, feeling, smelling and touching different materials 🧠

3. Arts activities help children to process all the information they have learned in a safe, reflective way. Art allows them to explore feelings and deal with both daily and significant events.

4. The creative process can help children connect with each other and find common ground - despite any other differences that they may have!

Since 2019, we’ve supported this inclusive summer art competition, hosted by . The organisation exists to make visual arts and museums accessible and inclusive for all children, regardless of their needs and abilities.

Working in partnership with Russia’s leading museums, the competition brings together almost 200 children with special educational needs and disabilities and their siblings.

It aims to increase accessibility and improve the quality of creative activities for children with special education needs and disabilities. By introducing children to famous artists and artworks, the competition encourages them to express their unique perspective and unlock their creativity. 👨🏼‍🎨
