Today is RSCM Music Sunday, a celebration of the vital role music plays in the worshipping life of churches across the country.

This afternoon we will welcome singers from across the Diocese of Southwark for our Come-and-Sing Diocesan Choirs Festival. During the service, we'll also present RSCM awards to those who have successfully completed their examinations this year, recognising their dedication and achievement.

Please note that this special Choral Evensong will take place at the later time of *4pm today* (rather than 3pm) to allow time for the visiting choirs to rehearse.

We hope to see you there! 🎢

Join Canon Michael and Lara as they explore Southwark's history of mudlarking, discuss some of Lara's favourite finds, and consider how the stories of the river belong to all of us.

It was a joy to host the Big Story Lunch last week in partnership with the National Year of Reading!

We were delighted to welcome volunteers and literacy champions from libraries, charities, heritage organisations and community groups from across Southwark, and beyond.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to this event: our speakers, poet Zohab Zee Khan and author A. M. Dassu; activity partners, EmpathyLab, Big Lunch (Eden Project Communities) and National Literacy Trust; and our Borough Market neighbours (Bread Ahead Bakery & School, Maggio's Confectionary, Mrs King's Pork Pies and Khanom Krok) for their generous and tasty food donations.

As literacy is the focus of Southwark Cathedral's Social Justice Programme this year, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the organisations and individuals working every day to open doors through reading and storytelling.

Most of all, thank you to every volunteer. It was a privilege to celebrate you.

A love of singing can open extraordinary doors.

We're holding a taster event for children aged 6–8 to experience life as a cathedral chorister.
Come along to sing, playing musical games, explore the Cathedral, and join our Choir for Evensong.

For families interested in finding out more, there will also be an opportunity to meet staff, clergy and current choir parents and ask questions about chorister life.

What might you discover by the well?

For just five days, from 17–21 June, The Retreat Association icon will be on display in the Lady Chapel. Depicting Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan Woman, this is a striking work of contemporary sacred art.

Created by the late iconographer John Coleman (Ikonjohn), the icon continues this centuries-old tradition of engaging with scripture.

Whether you come to pray or pause, all are welcome.
