In November 2024, a lone female sab from Mendip Hunt Sabs was attacked by terriermen from the Mendip Farmers Hunt. She had gone to investigate the suspected dig out of a fox that had gone to ground. The terriermen launched a frenzied attack on her. First, they stole her camcorder and body camera, then threw her to the ground, repeatedly punching her in the head and kicking her as she lay helpless. Avon & Somerset Police took no action against the perpetrators.

Attacks on female sabs are all too common, as is police inaction.

Huntsman charged over badger sett blocking

Badgers are often the forgotten victims of hunting as setts will be blocked to prevent foxes from seeking refuge ⬇️

GROVE AND RUFFORD HUNTSMAN CHARGED OVER BADGER SETT BLOCKING

Last week, Grove and Rufford huntsman Jacob Whalley and terrierman Ste Reynolds entered not guilty pleas, after being charged with tampering with an active badger sett in November last year.

This was one of many incidents of badger sett interference discovered around Grove and Rufford hunt meets last season.

The incident was covered by the Newark Advertiser and the trial is set for November.

In 2022 renewable energy company Ecotricity released undercover footage obtained from the Carmathenshire Hunt kennels. This footage shows huntsman Will Pinkney shooting hounds in the head before throwing their bodies into bins.

In the background, other hounds can be heard howling and during the video one hound can be seen looking up at Pinkney as he shoots them in the head. When asked by South Wales Hunt Sabs about how many hounds he 'replaces' each season, Pinkney replied by saying "I tend to have about half a dozen a year, to be honest."

This is the truth about 'trail hunting.' Hounds are seen as no more than expendable tools. And now hunts are exploiting them further by using the nations love of dogs to try and cling onto their disgusting 'pastime.'

Hunting lobbyists are already alluding to using drag hunts as the next smokescreen once the government finally bans so-called “trail” hunting — the mythical activity that instead results in the intentional searching, hunting and killing of wild animals.

Two hunts have already converted to the Master of Draghounds & Bloodhounds Association - including The Crawley and Horsham Hunt - a hunt with multiple Hunting Act convictions.

On the 14th of January 2026 hunt supporters from the Middleton Hunt launched an extremely violent attack on two female saboteurs, resulting in one being hospitalised.

The thug, Tom Hunter a local sheep farmer, approached the vehicle of East Yorkshire Coast Hunt Sabs and began trying to rip the windscreen wiper off. When the driver exited the vehicle to document the damage he twisted her wrist, pinning her against the vehicle despite her pleas to stop. Throughout this attack Tom licked his lips, grunting and smirking throughout.

He then turned his attention to another female sab who had tried to intervene. He dragged her by the hair, pulling her to the ground and punching her in the face. This attack resulted in a broken cheekbone, split lip, facial swelling, bruising, lacerations and other injuries. Tom's daughter Kerry Todd also participated in the attack, no doubt she'd had extensive lessons in violence from her father.

Unfortunately, these attacks are not isolated, and female sabs are often subjected to violence and misogyny from hunt members/supporters. This is the truth about 'trail hunting.'

We need change and we need it now. For over twenty years, hunts have continued to hunt and kill in exactly the same way they did before the Hunting Act 2004 came into force. And largely with the same level of impunity.

We need the following changes to the Hunting Act for it to be effective.

🔻 Recklessness clause - to ensure that injury or damage to any animal is a breach of the Act.

🔻 Reversal of the burden of proof to ensure participants are responsible for any action taken with hunting hounds.

🔻 Ban of trail hunting for artificial scent, animal-based or otherwise, to prevent trail hunting from being used as smokescreen for actual hunting.

🔻 Removal of all Hunting Exemptions as they have been used to facilitate actual hunting.

🔻 ‘Hunting’ definition to include the Act of ‘searching for a scent or animal’.

🔻 Criminal penalties to be aligned to Animal Welfare Act 2006.

In March this year Channel 4 reported on the consultation into banning ‘trail hunting.’ During the report Chief Correspondent Alex Thomson said “Fast forward over 20 years and report after report of foxes being chased and ripped apart – almost like the ban had never happened. Over the last three years, this programme has been broadcasting incidents of illegal hunting taking place across the country. Over the Christmas period we were inundated.”

This speaks volumes, as hunts have had over 20 years to abide by the law and yet are still exploiting loopholes within the Hunting Act. But now they are moaning that they are being victimised, when the only people they have to blame are themselves.

Unfortunately, there are horrifying levels of reports nationally about violence towards women from those in the hunting community, and these reports span back decades. This incident in particular took place in February 2026 at the Warwickshire Hunt.

Hunt member Harry Sawyer who was wilfully obstructing a vehicle on a public highway assaulted a female saboteur. He twisted her arm up her back, digging his fingers into her as he did so and pushed her into the road where traffic was passing.

West Midlands Hunt Saboteurs reports from last season show alarming behaviour from Sawyer who has repeatedly tried to intimidate female saboteurs and has on more than one occasion used physical violence towards them. However, Sawyer is not an isolated case and female saboteurs have been subjected to horrifying levels of violence at the hands of hunt supporters, who believe they are above the law.

Is it any surprise that these people who are exposed to and participate in sickening scenes of animal cruelty week in and week out think it is acceptable to inflict violence upon other people, just because they are preventing and exposing their illegal hunting.

More often than not they face little to no consequences for their actions and so the cycle continues.
