Such a perfect Christmas story. Beautiful and immensely moving. The homeless population is disproportionately off the scale with autistic people, if only they all could have an outcome such as this and feel safe, secure, understood and supported, throughout their lives.
My ultimate aim for Satsuma Neighbour (satsumaneighbour.org) is to change these terrible statistics and how independent living really works, for the most vulnerable amongst us.

On 23 December 1975, Rob Parsons and his wife Dianne were preparing for Christmas at their Cardiff home when they heard a knock at the door.

On their doorstep stood a man with a bin bag containing his possessions in his right hand and a frozen chicken in his left.

Rob studied the man's face and vaguely remembered him as Ronnie Lockwood, someone he would occasionally see at Sunday School as a boy and who he was told to be kind to as he was a "bit different".

Then he said two words that changed the couple’s lives, “come in”.

Change is possible and change is needed. We just have to follow what we know is right.

In Uruguay, families co-own and co-build their homes through housing cooperatives. Some chip in savings, others swing hammers.

The result? Affordable, dignified housing that stays off the private market, and a blueprint the world can learn from.

Hello and welcome to Satsuma Neighbour Facebook!

First post and an Important one, please action and share.

For anyone on here who has offspring with support needs of any age (or knows someone who does), who wonders where on earth they may live one day... We are delighted that the National Development Team for Inclusion - NDTi, inspired by the vision of Satsuma Neighbour, are undertaking this research.

Please do open the attached link and sign up for a webinar next week (3rd, 5th, 10th June) and complete the short survey. Incredibly, there is virtually no research at all on supportive, independent living and options and choices for individuals with support needs.

We'd be so grateful for anyone sharing this post, THANK YOU!
