London Barndance Contra

London Barndance Contra London Barndance Company. Central London's monthly contra dance, based in Cecil Sharp House. Zesty music and high-energy dancing.

This is English tradition brought up to date and given a Trans-Atlantic twist. We meet once every month at Cecil Sharp House (near Regents Park). Most dances are in contra formation: long lines of couples, and most people change partners after each dance so come alone or bring a group – you will find plenty of people to dance with. It's easy to join in too, as the caller will walk through all the

moves before the music starts. London Barndance events are now mostly Contra dances. Sometimes a few squares, trad and modern numbers get thrown in for good measure. The exact mix of dances depends on the interests of the caller, and also on the audience: callers often adjust their programme to match the skills and mood of the dancers.
