Big opportunity to help shape the future of Martyn’s Law regulation

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is inviting organisations expected to be within scope of Martyn’s Law (The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025), and those with an interest in the legislation, to review and comment on its draft guidance.

To support the consultation, the SIA is hosting a webinar for NTIA members on 8th June at 12:00pm, providing an overview of the draft guidance and highlighting the key questions where industry feedback is needed.

With Martyn’s Law expected to come into force in Spring 2027, this is a valuable opportunity to understand how the SIA intends to regulate and, importantly, to help shape the guidance before it is finalised.

London’s bars, restaurants, pubs, clubs, theatres and cultural spaces rely on people being able to get in and out of the city with confidence. When that journey becomes uncertain, the impact is felt immediately, not just by venue owners but by the thousands of staff, freelancers, suppliers and performers who keep the night-time economy moving.

At a time when businesses are already navigating rising costs and cautious consumer spending, further disruption heading into the weekend could create even greater challenges. The night-time economy remains one of London’s biggest cultural and economic success stories, but it depends on a transport network people can rely on.

Spaces like Algha’s Plantroom don’t just host parties they hold entire communities together.

With rising costs and cancellations hitting independent venues harder than ever, another q***r-led space in London is fighting to stay alive, and the reality is: once these rooms disappear, the culture, connection, and opportunities built inside them go with them too.

From late-night sets to first exhibitions, dance floors to safe spaces, venues like this are where scenes are born and people find each other. If you’ve ever said nightlife changed your life, now’s the time to show up for the spaces keeping that spirit alive.

At the Night Time Economy Summit 2026, Steven Braines spoke about the importance of nightlife in bringing communities together and creating spaces where people can feel safe being themselves. From the dancefloor to grassroots venues, nightlife continues to play a huge role in connection, identity and belonging for so many people.

Because these spaces are more than venues, they’re communities built around expression, acceptance, and shared experience.

28.9% of the UK’s late-night economy has disappeared since 2020.

What’s changing isn’t just nightlife, it’s how people connect. Guests are going out earlier, spending more carefully and choosing spaces that actually give them a reason to leave the house. The venues surviving right now aren’t always the biggest operators, they’re the independents building community, creating experiences, and giving people something real to come back for.

But resilience only stretches so far when rising costs, transport gaps, licensing pressure and shrinking margins keep stacking up. This report puts numbers to what the industry’s been saying for years: nightlife isn’t dying quietly, it’s being squeezed from every angle.

People haven’t stopped wanting connection, culture or music. The demand is still there. The challenge is whether the industry gets the support it needs to keep delivering it.

At the Night Time Economy Summit 2026, Lisa Maffia spoke about the importance of the underground music scene and what’s at risk if those spaces continue to disappear. She highlighted how original sounds and future talent are built from the ground up, not manufactured.

Because when underground culture is lost, the industry risks losing the creativity and originality that pushes music forward.
