HvH ARTS Summer HAF being held at our partner school with our artist in residence iyla shah
led by Iyla Shah assisted by Florencia, Shoda, Miranda saw the children construct their own little city from rubbish
Plastic bottles became trees. Milk cartons became rockets. Delivery boxes became apartment blocks. Shoe boxes became a Chinese restaurant. Bicycle wheels spun into funfair rides. Even our own old HVH mounting boards found new life as a comic book store.
A ‘Kids Only Zone.’ A Secret tunnel. Walls painted with “BE KIND” and ‘DO NOT BULLY.’Large areas of nature. A Ice cream Van that also sells toys.
Not what a city looks like — what a city feels like through a child’s eyes.
Every scrap, every offcut, every ‘waste’ material rebuilt into a world where imagination is the only planning permission you need. Children were able to experiment with the array of textures, structures and colors sitting in their recycling bins.
