In this session, Katy Chedzey will be joined by Nicola Arkinstall who will introduce the NIoT Evidence Portal, a free resource that brings together research and professional insight to support more informed decision-making about professional learning. The Portal is designed not to provide simple answers, but to support you as educators to interpret evidence critically and apply it thoughtfully in practice.

The session will include a deeper exploration of the Inclusive Professional Learning strand. Drawing on international research, this strand considers how professional learning can be designed to support you to engage meaningfully as teachers, develop your practice, and experience a sense of belonging and agency.

Huge congratulations to every student receiving their GCSE and Level 2 vocational qualification results today. Whatever the results say, they don't tell the full story of the effort, resilience and growth that's gone into getting here.

Behind every result is a teacher who taught and supported their students to do their best. Today's results belong to students, but they were shaped by teachers too.

If today doesn't look the way you hoped, it doesn't define what comes next. Plenty of paths are still ahead, and the skills you've built along the way go with you.

To every teacher who played a part in today: thank you. 💙

In the autumn term we are delivering a new webinar series specifically aimed at those training to become teachers. The 'Thriving in your first year' series will support you as you take your first steps into the profession, which can sometimes feel daunting.

Our first session in this series focuses on classroom routines and aims to:
✏️ Explore how setting clear, consistent classroom routines creates engaging and inclusive learning environments.
✏️Discuss what makes routines effective, and the impact of staying consistent within your lessons.
✏️Understand how to use adaptive strategies to suit the diverse needs of your learners.
✏️Learn strategies to establish routines that support smooth transitions and create a positive space for learning.

We will be joined by sector experts, including Yamina Bibi FCCT and Jonny Wainman, who will offer practical strategies, evidence‑informed insight, and space to reflect as you take your first steps into the classroom.

Today's summer reading recommendation! 📚

You made submissions of your top reading recommendations over the summer term and we will be sharing them over the next few weeks. While we want to encourage everyone to take a proper break from work, we also want to support those of you who would like to delve deeper into education topics.

The seventh of our summer reading recommendations is 'Punished by Rewards' by Alfie Kohn.

What our member said about this book: "This book, albeit a pretty dated one, poses an interesting question as to whether the extrinsic rewards we offer both children and adults ultimately reduces their intrinsic motivation. As a teacher who often finds herself asking ‘how do I get my students to love learning for its own sake, not just what they will be tested on?’ the core argument of this book that any offer of ‘do this and you’ll get that’ ultimately renders the ‘this’ an obstacle to be endured in order to get the reward is a thought-provoking one. In a post-pandemic educational landscape, where emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and a sense of school belonging have become increasingly prominent concerns, it is worth examining whether traditional behaviourist approaches based on rewards and sanctions remain the most effective means of ensuring that every child feels recognised, understood, valued, and welcomed within our school communities".

We are delighted to join the steering panel of the newly established Educational Neuroscience Policy Research Centre.

The aim of the steering panel is to provide us feedback on the centre's policy recommendations and deliverables, as well as improve knowledge mobilisation.

The stakeholder panel will ensure that research is grounded in real-world contexts, ethically robust, and responsive to the needs and priorities of those most affected, strengthening relevance, credibility, and impact.
