What a fantastic day at the CW+ Nature and Biophilia in Hospitals Symposium.

We were proud to bring together clinicians, designers, researchers and creative practitioners from across the UK to explore how nature and green spaces can support patient care, staff wellbeing and stronger hospital communities.

A special thank you to our keynote speakers, including Ashby Lavelle Sachs and Victoria Shearing (RHS), Dan Loveard (NHS Forest), Lewis Elliott (European Centre for Environment and Human Health), and Katie Tait and Alex Law (Horatio’s Garden) for sharing their expertise and insights.

With inspiring contributions from colleagues across healthcare, the arts, design and the environmental sector, the day was filled with ideas, learning and collaboration.

Right now, the Haematology Oncology Day Unit at West Middlesex University Hospital can care for up to 10 patients at a time.

Kate O’Sullivan shares how the arrival of the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre (DTEC) will make a real difference – increasing capacity to 16 patients while also giving both patients and staff the space they need.

For patients going through treatment, the space around them matters. It means more comfort, more privacy and a calmer environment during what can be one of the hardest times of their lives.

Today, we’re bringing together leaders from across healthcare, design and the arts at West Middlesex University Hospital to explore how nature and green spaces can transform hospital environments, supporting patient care, staff wellbeing and stronger communities.

The programme features an inspiring lineup of keynote speakers, including Dr Ashby Lavelle Sachs and Victoria Shearing (RHS), Dan Loveard (NHS Forest), Dr Lewis Elliot (European Centre for Environment and Human Health) and Katie Tait and Alex Law (Horatio’s Garden).

Alongside keynote talks, we’re hearing from colleagues across the NHS and beyond through a series of showcases exploring innovative approaches to biophilic design, participation and nature engagement.

Today’s CW+ Lunchtime Performance brought the atrium at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital to life with incredible music from acclaimed Filipino artists Jeffrey Hidalgo and Nino Alejandro. Staff and patients enjoyed a fantastic performance, filled with powerful vocals and uplifting moments.

This important documentary shines a light on the impact endometriosis can have on people's lives.

At CW+, we're proud to support innovation that improves care for women with endometriosis at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Through a CW+ grant, Dr Tom Bainton and colleagues developed an NHS-first augmented reality (AR) tool that uses anatomically precise 3D models to help patients better understand their diagnosis and treatment options.

Following a successful pilot in 2025, it is now used as standard practice during pre-operative consultations, demonstrating how charitable funding can help bring innovation into everyday care.
