The Food Foundation

The Food Foundation Working to change food policy and business practice to ensure everyone in the UK can afford and access healthy and sustainable food 🍏🗣️🫘📊📢🛒💚

OUR VISION

Our vision is to build a consensus around clear 21st century policies that address the challenging consumer and market environment in food. We want to change the relationship that we as a nation have with food, and ensure that the key actors in the food sector respond effectively to the changes facing our food system. It is apparent that there was no single body producing independent,

unbiased food policies. In other sectors, such as health, there are organisations producing detailed public policies that can then be implemented by Government – this is exactly what the food sector needs to deal with challenges of the future. The challenges facing the global food system should not be underestimated. These issues are bringing the UK’s established food system and business model into question. Public policy on food sustainability, affordability and security has not had to deal with these variables for many years. The four key objectives of the Foundation are:
To be an influential, independent source of food policy ideas and analysis. To be an independent forum for debate and discussion across all the different competing interests: for consumers, government and the food industry. To be a centre of innovative, high-impact interventions, testing practical responses to policy ideas. To be a thought leader in shaping a successful, sustainable, affordable, secure food sector. We are very grateful to our current funders, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Nuffield Foundation. We only accept support that does not compromise our independence.

Better school food = more children eating school meals, and that means better days in the classroom, too 📚

A recent Food Foundation briefing on school food uptake shows what works: fresh, appealing food, skilled kitchen teams, better dining experiences and pupil input can drive real uptake. Schools working with Chefs in Schools, School Food Matters and the Jamie Oliver Group report positive trends in uptake and whole school food culture.

The School Food Project, launching fully in September, will provide free online resources and training for schools to improve their school food and get more kids eating it.
