CPRE London strongly objects to the proposed development on Havering’s Green Belt behind Wingletye Lane and Benets Road. The fields have been farmed for years, are rich in wildlife and play a vital role in separating Hornchurch from Upminster, helping check unrestricted urban sprawl and preventing neighbouring towns merging into one another.

If it goes ahead, the development will spoil the rural character and severely reduce the openness of this tranquil section of the Green Belt. It could also set a precedent for further planning applications on protected Green Belt land across the wider Ingrebourne Valley.
There is a plentiful supply of brownfield and previously developed land in Havering to build affordable homes. There is no need to build on the Green Belt.

CPRE London has submitted an objection to the planning application and encourage others to do so too. Let’s work together to stop this damaging development on Havering’s precious Green Belt.

This new post will manage and deliver our public-facing campaigns, support our network of volunteers and local campaigners and work in partnership with other organisations and coalitions.
We’re looking for someone who has a strong track record of delivering successful campaigns and possesses a good understanding of the planning system and related green space issues in London.

Congratulations to National CPRE 🎉

On the Edge garden from our friends at has been awarded a gold medal at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 and Garden of the Year in the Show Garden category.

Through the accompanying On the Edge campaign, CPRE is calling for every town and city to be surrounded by protected countryside for nature, climate and wellbeing.

London has only half the green space it needs for a population its size. To turn grey space green, the most realistic way is to create 'streetparks.' We're working with local groups in Hackney, Lambeth, Southwark and Islington to turn a local street into a park.

🌳More streets are turning into parks, and this is just one example. We believe the community will benefit from these by enjoying the beautiful, tree-filled places.
