London has only half the green space it needs for a population its size. To turn grey space green, the most realistic way is to create 'streetparks.' We're working with local groups in Hackney, Lambeth, Southwark and Islington to turn a local street into a park.

🌿And finally, London's latest new park has nearly finished construction!

Where is it?
It's St John Street, Farringdon!

🌳More streets are turning into parks, and this is just one example. We believe the community will benefit from these by enjoying the beautiful, tree-filled places.

Good news for green spaces 🥳
Thanks to your generosity, we raised an incredible £20,070 for our green spaces work through – which is also the most we’ve ever raised from a BigGive.org fundraising appeal.
A huge thank you to BigGive for matching donations – and to you, of course, for every single contribution towards the appeal.
This funding will go a long way in helping protect and enhance London’s green spaces for generations to come, and we couldn't be happier 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who’s doubled their donation this week! Your support will help us give communities vital planning and campaigning advice to keep those precious spaces free from development, so we can all continue to enjoy them.

But we still need another £16,080 to reach our £25,000 goal, and the match window closes next Wednesday.

Will you help us hit our goal by then? Double your donation now at bit.ly/4dYRn5y

CPRE London is calling for:
1. A change to the law to place strong conditions on the sale and lease of public parks to safeguard our open space for generations to come
2. A change to the law to place spatial and temporal limits on the commercial use of public parks to ensure that public access is protected, along with the physical fabric of the park and the biodiversity it support
3. The introduction of rent controls to enable long-term leases at realistic rents for sports club leaseholders; and
4. The removal of the requirement to pay
‘hope value’ when a green site is bought by or on behalf of the community; plus a programme of compulsory purchase of out-of-use or derelict pitches, particularly in areas lacking access to facilities.

Getting to grips with London’s affordability emergency means changing policy, not just talking about housebuilding.
• To get rents under control, government must implement emergency rent controls and other ways of restraining the market.
• To prevent yet more homelessness, Government must cover housing costs adequately. It is far cheaper to stop a family losing their home than to pay for months or years in temporary accommodation.
• Where developments have stalled because flats are not selling, government and the Mayor of London should convert those homes to social housing.
And CPRE London is calling for government to reverse damaging ‘grey belt’ policy and halt the London Green Belt Review immediately.
