Although our sewing programmes are closed for the summer, it's so nice to see participants apply the techniques that they've learnt. Here a participant from Barnet has borrowed her neighbour's sewing machine to make mini "concealer" curtains for her kitchen trolley, putting into practice the curtain making she was taught just before the summer holidays!

One of our Make and Mend participants has made some very innovative cushion covers for her home!

K***akala was founded precisely for this purpose: to help ethnically diverse women, like our participant here, make garments from their cultural backgrounds. This helps them save money by not importing garments, but could also motivate them to tap a gap in the market for clothes of a specific culture and lead to income generation.

All our programmes have now closed for the summer and will resume mid-September. Participants have now started on principles of making curtain headers. They will complete these when we resume.

Just an idea: our saree upcycled bookmarks can also be framed as works of art in your homes. Please see Exhibit A above, framed by a buyer.
