๐ฑ๐ฐ๐๐ฌ๐งWe were delighted to welcome Ashley, Grants Manager from the Educational Opportunity Foundation to our Tea Leaf Trust centres in Nuwara Eliya and Tawalantenne alongside our CEO, Yadharshi Selvaraj.
Tawalantenne holds a special place in our story. Established first in Pussellawa, through a partnership between Tea Leaf Trust, the Educational Opportunity Foundation and the Gnanam Foundation, the centre is bringing free, life-changing education to young people in a region where opportunities have traditionally been limited. ๐ช๐๐
During her visit, Ashley spent time listening to our students, teachers and trainee teachers, gaining first-hand insight into how educational opportunities are transforming lives, particularly for young women. The impact is already being seen:
โจ 60% of our Tawalantenne staff are graduates of the centre, demonstrating the power of young leaders investing back into their own communities.
โจ 82% of last year's graduates progressed into employment or further education within six months of graduating.
The need for this centre has become even more evident following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which has further highlighted the importance of accessible education, skills development and community resilience in this district.
๐คThank you, Ashley, and the Educational Opportunity Foundation for your partnership, encouragement and belief in the potential of young people in Sri Lanka's tea-growing communities. Together, we are ensuring that quality education is accessible to everyone.
