Clean Air for Southall and Hayes

Fairlawn car park in Southall is popular with shoppers at the weekend but is also a popular meeting spot for drug dealers and drug users. This location is next door to RISE the drug and alcohol rehab service in Southall Town Hall and is happening right under the nose of the Met as Southall Police Station is only 16O metres away. The police and Ealing Council must take sustained and effective action to catch the drug dealers who are after RISE's clients as easy prey.

Re: Environmental and health impacts of the Trident Way data centre development, Southall

I am writing to you as a constituent in Ealing Southall to express my deep concern regarding the rapid expansion of data centres in our local area, specifically the redevelopment on Trident Way, which is close to my home. I was disheartened to watch your appearance on BBC 1’s Politics London show on 4th October 2026, where you openly declared your support for data centre developments. I strongly urge you to rethink this stance and prioritise the health of your constituents.

The planned installation of 218 back-up diesel generators at the Trident Way site poses a severe and direct threat to local air quality. While these generators are intended for emergency use and periodic testing, their collective emissions will drastically compound the ambient air pollution in an area that is already heavily overburdened. Specifically, Southall is already suffering from significant point source air pollution generated by the two asphalt plants in nearby Hayes.

When the wind is westerly, a pungent, overpowering diesel odour blankets our residential streets. This toxic mix of air pollution is actively damaging the health of vulnerable local residents, particularly children, the elderly, and those living with chronic respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD. The location of the data centre is adjacent to residential homes on Brent Road and understandably residents are concerned about the impact of background noise on their lives.
While the economic narrative surrounding these facilities is often highlighted, it cannot come at the expense of our right to breathe clean air. Southall should not become a sacrifice zone for resource-heavy digital infrastructure.

As our elected representative, I urge you to:

* Rethink your blanket support for these mega data centres and acknowledge the compounding environmental toll they take on West London.
* Advocate for strict, legally binding mitigations to protect residents, including a transition away from diesel backup systems toward zero-emission battery storage or green hydrogen alternatives.
* Demand rigorous, transparent independent air quality monitoring that specifically measures the cumulative impact of the Trident Way testing schedule alongside Hayes industrial emissions.

I look forward to hearing your position on how you plan to protect the respiratory health and wellbeing of the people who voted for you to represent them.

Residents were a collective voice at the community action on 27th September 2026. We have had enough of the Labour councillors ignoring us and failing to listen to our concerns; the relocation of RISE from West Ealing to Southall Town Hall without a consultation and Equalities Impact Assessment, rising drug related crime and antisocial behaviour, overdevelopment of Southall without adequate infrastructure and amenities, damaged pavements, fly-tipping, lack of parking and more issues affecting the quality of life in Southall. The next community action is on 31st October at 2.00pm outside of Southall Town Hall.

Residents are being let down by the councillors who don't engage with them on RISE, crime, antisocial behaviour, fly-tipping, broken pavements, lack of leisure amenities, unaffordable housing developments, inadequate infrastructure, closure of the children's centres and more.

Is Southall Finished?

Many residents who have been proud to call Southall home are now proclaiming that the town is finished as evidenced by the descent into a state of lawlessness causing unease for residents. Drug dealing and visible drug use on the streets all over but next door to RISE, the drug and alcohol rehab service in a prominent location just 160 metres from the police station, is being normalised. Residents also see fly-tipping on nearly every pavement, antisocial behaviour, dilapidated park amenities and human excrement on the pavements as practical application of the broken windows theory. Children are afraid for their elderly parents because of the videos of street muggings circulating and parents are worried that their teenage children might be groomed by the drug gangs. Southall is rapidly becoming a dormitory town due to unaffordable high rise developments squeezing the life out of the town. Join residents outside of Southall Town Hall on 27th September at 3.00pm to 5.00pm and be part of the collective voice to demand that Ealing Council take action to stop the rot.

Community Leader, Joe Bhangu speaks candidly about the Labour councillors in Southall who are to blame for the dangerous and lawless state of the town. They are to blame because the council relocated RISE from West Ealing to Southall Town Hall which acts as a beacon for the drug dealers to descend on Fairlawn car park next door which is just 160 metres from Southall Police Station and Southall Park. Joe was threatened by a group of drug dealers who control Southall Green. He had to de-escalate the situation to preserve his life. Southall is rough due to aggressive begging, visible drug dealing, open drug use and violent incidents. The icing on the cake to this degradation, are the mountains of bin bags, broken furniture and mattresses on virtually every pavement.

Ignoring the Streets: How Ealing Council Turned Its Back on Southall

The councillors in Southall were invited to community led meetings on crime and fly-tipping and haven't even bothered to rsvp the invitations. Their track record indicates that even if Ealing Community Independents weren't involved in organising the community action, they wouldn't turn up to this event. They just aren't interested in meeting residents and shy away from being held accountable for their failures. They were happy to accept an invitation to attend a meeting at RISE, showing how one sided they are. It is likely they had their blinkers on and ignored the drug activity next door to RISE in the Fairlawn car park.
