Our members at New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) have released a new report, Together for a fairer, greener future, exploring how communities can have a stronger voice in shaping responses to the climate and environmental challenges we face. The report highlights the importance of putting community power, lived experience and local knowledge at the heart of decision-making. It also explores how funders, charities and policymakers can work differently to enable communities to influence the decisions that affect their lives and futures.

Alongside this, the report sets out practical priorities for strengthening community organisations, building meaningful, long-term relationships and creating more opportunities for communities to shape the change they want to see. It’s a valuable contribution to the conversation around climate, communities and the role of philanthropy, and well worth a read.

Our members at Christian Aid recently launched the Resilient Futures Fund, an exciting new initiative supporting locally led climate solutions across Africa.

The Fund will provide patient, flexible capital to locally led enterprises, supporting businesses that are helping communities adapt to the growing impacts of climate change.

What makes the Fund particularly exciting is its focus on backing locally driven solutions. Communities experiencing the greatest impacts of climate change are often best placed to understand the challenges they face and develop solutions that work for them. Yet they need access to the right kind of finance and support to turn those solutions into reality.

By providing patient and flexible capital, the Resilient Futures Fund aims to help bridge this gap and enable locally led enterprises to grow, creating lasting solutions for communities on the frontlines of climate change.

Yesterday, we were delighted to attend the launch of our member Independent Age’s new strategy.

The event marked an exciting step forward for Independent Age, setting out its vision for the future and unveiling a new brand identity that will help bring that vision to life.

It was wonderful to hear the incredible and moving stories of people who have been supported by the organisation, highlighting the real impact of its work.

We were also delighted to hear from Derrick Errol Evans MBE, better known as Mr Motivator, the famous fitness instructor and motivational speaker. His fascinating and inspiring speech brought his trademark energy, positivity and enthusiasm to the event.

A truly inspiring occasion and an exciting new chapter for Independent Age. We look forward to seeing all that this new strategy will achieve!

Our members at CAF recently launched their latest World Giving Report, which explores the realities facing charities around the world, from rising demand and financial pressures to their changing needs and priorities.

The findings highlight a sector that continues to adapt and respond despite significant uncertainty. Two-thirds of charities say demand for their services has increased over the past year, while fewer than two-in-five feel well positioned for future success.

The report also shows that support from funders needs to extend beyond financial contributions, with 92% of charities identifying other ways funders could help.

We are delighted to announce that Jamie Broderick has been appointed as the new Chair of Philanthropy Impact, succeeding Rennie H***e, who has served as Chair for the past six years.

Jamie brings extensive experience across wealth management, investment and impact investing. He is Deputy Chair of the Impact Investing Institute and was previously Head of UBS Wealth Management in the UK.

Commenting on his appointment, Jamie said:

“I am delighted to be taking on the Chair of Philanthropy Impact, building on the tremendous leadership Rennie H***e has provided over the past six years.

It is a particularly exciting time to do so. Public awareness of the potential of philanthropy and the wider impact economy has never been higher, and there is growing recognition that private capital, alongside government and civil society, has an important role to play in tackling some of our most pressing social and environmental challenges.”

We would also like to thank Rennie H***e warmly for his leadership, commitment and contribution to Philanthropy Impact over the past six years.

🌱 Our members at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew are making great progress towards their goal of becoming climate positive by 2030.

In just one year, Kew has reduced its fossil fuel consumption by 22%, driven by measures including heat pumps, electric vehicles and horticultural equipment, alongside increased renewable energy from solar power.

A fantastic example of practical climate action, demonstrating how large, complex organisations can make meaningful progress towards net zero. 🌍
