AIESEC UK are saddened to hear of the loss of one of the pioneering figures in our history. Barbara Whitehead was the first ever Secretary for AI under Victor Loewenstein, and previously was Secretary for AIESEC UK when we were the Presiding Country Committee for AIESEC globally in 1960 (in essence, AI). She played a huge role in putting our entity on the global map and kickstarting what became the world's largest youth-led organisation. We thank her for her services to this organisation.

Here is a tribute to her written by her PAI, Victor (who also founded AIESEC in Edinburgh in 1958):

“Once elected SG (Secretary General), I immediately asked Barbara if she wanted to join me for the one-year term. She had just graduated and accepted the challenge. She was my most effective “right hand”, and we developed a close friendship which lasted her lifetime.

She had a son and I was honoured by her request to be his Godfather.

At the end of our term she immediately joined the Geneva United Nation offices where she had a very successful career until her retirement when she returned to the UK where she has relatives in Devonshire.

In addition throughout her life she continued to participate in numerous Alumni events both in the UK and internationally.”
